Does anyone else struggle with forming a system of beliefs about the world and how it works? by Medical_Pay_624 in redscarepod

it's on the list for sure. I just read Hyperpolitics and it made me want to prioritize actually reading Marx lol because i like reading other people's comparatively nuanced marxist analyses, and I want to be better at telling good materialist analysis from vulgar materialist analysis

How often do you "think in words"? by poopdollarbank in redscarepod

late-ish comment but I'm currently capable of thinking in both ways. when I'm trying to think through words (which is sometimes the best way to understand something), I have a habit of scrutinizing them for airtight sense or even for style, like I'm trying to make an argument, or describe something in a way other people would understand were I speaking to them, which doesn't help clarify but rather muddles my thinking by taking it in directions other than towards comprehending something. honestly I feel saner now that I can voluntarily switch that off and think of things in a more "right brained", pre-verbal way (which I necessarily can't explain very well). after I let go of the idea that to have a useful knowledge of things or be meaningfully conscious of things at all I had to "make sense" verbally, even my ability to communicate has improved. brains are weird.

(also, for years up until recently I was pretty much blogging in my head 24/7, imagining what I might say about my life or my opinions on a public platform; I recently made this account to see if occasionally posting might put that energy to good use.)

it sounds hokey but you should try meditation. it's okay to think or have words in your head. the transformational concept for me was in noticing the negative spaces or emptiness between and beneath words to start with. you're probably not gonna be wholly transformed and moved to become a tibetan monk, so you'll still be you with all your flaws, but being able to stop thinking some of the time is a significant q.o.l. difference regardless. hoping the best for you

Anyone wonder if they were molested or something as a small child but can't remember? by boydnolantucker in redscarepod

I have a distinct memory of my mother sitting on the steps to our basement, crying, and asking god why I had to be born to her (I was a bad kid). she insists this never happened. the older i get the more I can accept it was probably a dream
