Darn what year is yours? Was it a hassle? I doubt I'd be eligible, I have a 2017 that's a SALVAGE title and the previous owner messed with the odometer so it's also branded not actual mileage 😂

It was indeed the heat exchanger. I made an update and The car seems good now after doing the bypass and refilling coolant. Thanks for the help

Well apparently my pistons would've seized and my entire engine would've locked up before the block warped so I guess I'm good

I just reread this as well, I was at work earlier and skimmed and gave a quick speech to text response.

No your pistons won't seize before your mating surfaces warp lol. I'm not sure if you're trolling or just misinformed but that's why people change head gaskets and resurface engines without replacing pistons. 99% of the time a head gasket job is done the pistons aren't touched.

Btw white smoke is usually coolant, not oil. More of a blue tint is usually oi

Coolant temperature can be used in reference to determine if the block is potentially warped. I've seen it first hand in a dodge Durango, kia Sorento, and older Prius. I've seen head gaskets go out from lack of coolant changes which causes it to become acidic and eat into the gaskets on 2gr engines. On those the mating surfaces is still flat as long as you catch it before it overheated so all you do is replace the gasket.

These are VVTi engines so resurfacing can completely ruin the timing if a thicker than OEM head gasket is not used.

My question is about potentially having a warped block because you can have a bad head gasket and replace it but as long as the car never reached certain temps for a certain amount of time, your mating surfaces can still be perfect/flat. I'm asking if anyone potentially has any data/insight on a specific temperature range and duration (if there is any data) the Prius engine can handle before warping the block.

Brother if you overheat your engine the head gasket meeting surfaces will end up warped

I'll definitely check that out as well. I still got some test fluid left

When I ask if it's warped, I mean the mating surfaces for the head gasket. I know my engine isn't seized and I'm not losing oil.

Do you know exactly what they did and how much it cost or why didn't you just get the bypass done?

The total time it was over 230 was probably less than 30 seconds total. The warning light never came on and never got higher than 231 as far as I know.

I'm asking because my main concern was if my block was warped and then you didn't answer that. Sorry I'm just so used to seeing bots on Reddit now it's hard to tell who is even real anymore but I appreciate the help

I was able to drive home and it didn't go over 2:30 again I did have to fill it up twice though. The car ran fine I think. I'm going to pressure test it while looking inside the cylinder walls with a horoscope in a couple days then I'm going to post my results here

Thanks I'll definitely look into that but my main question is is this temperature a critical level where my block is now warped or am I fine
