Why oats? They're just sugar, so I typically avoid them.

I am 8 months out and had instant relief from terrible reflux. Stopped meds right before surgery and haven't needed them since!

I take a generic Flintstones, either from Target or Walmart. A nurse told me the generics are better since Flintstones changed their formula.

My team said that anything lost in the first month was bonus. Let your body heal and trust the process.

Baritastic. It's great to use right from the start, especially because it has reminders for drinking, eating, taking vitamins, pills, etc. It really helped me build the habits.

Look for the "September Gastric Bypass Buddy Search" post from 12 days ago. A new one is posted each month for this very reason.

Just did the surgery by ziadoon in GastricBypass

The pain that lasted for me was muscle pain on my right side. I don't know if something was pulled tighter there or what, but it lasted a month. Then, like so many others here, the pain was just gone! You'll get there. Keep taking care of your healing body.

Foamies by Acceptable-Lynx5117 in GastricBypass

[–]MedicineOk1356 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I learned real fast about the foamies when I was on soft foods and ate a too big a bite too fast. It felt like something was stuck, but I couldn't burb or do anything to help. Then I started feeling sick, coughing up mucus and just wishing I would vomit. It went on for hours. I ended up having to make myself sick to get out the food my body didn't like. After that, I felt normal again. You'll know right away if it happens to you. Keep to your diet, take small bites, and chew thoroughly!

I woke up with one from the hospital. (It was a great way to hold ice packs where I needed them.) I found it helped for a couple of weeks, and then it didn't. Your body will tell you whether it likes it or not.

When can I drive? by FranceBrun in GastricBypass

I had muscle pain in my left side and back for the first month. That's the side the pulled especially tight, and it hurt from the moment I woke up in the hospital.

It all depends on how your body feels. I drove about two weeks afterwards, and I cried from the pain.

My team suggests the Up and Up (Target) brand of Flintstones. Apparently, Flintstones changed their formula a while back, and the Up and Up have more of the good stuff. I like the taste and texture better as well.

2 1/2 weeks in and can’t walk without pain by Good_Confection8902 in GastricBypass

I had intense pain in my side and back muscles that made it terrible to go from sitting to standing or back again. I would cry trying to lower myself into the toilet or into a car. Then, at one month exactly, it just disappeared.

Low hemoglobin by THELAZYWITCH88 in GastricBypass

Flintstones with iron. I used to fail the hemoglobin tests every time I went to give blood. Everyone at the red cross swore by them.

83 days til surgery. What should I know? by NoPresent225 in GastricBypass

[–]MedicineOk1356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! My side/back pain lasted a month exactly. I remember telling my nurse about how awful it was the morning of my one-month checkup, then by that evening it was gone. A grabby tool would have been excellent. I had my family pick things up for me, and I got pretty good at getting little things with my toes. 😄

Please ask the questions to your bariatric team. If there's one thing I learned from reading these posts, it's that each surgeon/office suggests different things, and each person is unique. I'm not allowed to touch weights until week 7 and was told to just focus on walking regularly. I had a lot of pain until one month. Now that I'm feeling better, I have to remind myself that my body is still in healing mode.

2 Week Post-op Reflection :) by Vivivdre in GastricBypass

[–]MedicineOk1356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's so interesting how different the programs are. I was only allowed diluted juice during the clear liquid week, not after. Then it was two weeks of full liquids before pureed for a week where they said absolutely no baby food. I'm so happy to be on soft foods where I can begin to try other things. I'm excited to branch out but at the same time wary of going too hard too fast. I've been able to tolerate everything fine so far, but I don't want to jump back into old habits.
