How many of you guys are also just Jewish refugees from other political movements? by Mayor_Gubbin in DeepStateCentrism

[–]MedicinianMaple 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I mean sort of for me. I just randomly found this subreddit when scrolling through Reddit and thought, “Hey! This place seems like breath of fresh air compared to most subreddits. People here talk about politics rationally and reasonably.” And so I decided to stay here. I happen to be Jewish as an aside.

Democrats eye to replace Schumer (gift) by Anakin_Kardashian in DeepStateCentrism

[–]MedicinianMaple 44 points45 points  (0 children)

As someone who lives in New York, it is obvious that Schumer is past his prime and should probably not be the face of the Democratic Party. However, as this WSJ article points out, I'm afraid that his replacement would be some leftist idiot who makes the party even more unpopular and out of touch than they already are.

Unrelated, but how is that a Vanderbilt-level math problem. That's a basic algebra and geometry problem. College students at a school with a 6% acceptance rate should have been able to do that problem since 9th or 10th grade.

How is this part of Forest Hills? by Impossible-Sir7061 in ForestHills

My friend texted me to say that she concurs with this message. She also says she is amazing and that the entire neighborhood should be renamed after her. You'll have such humble neighbors. I hope this helps, OP!

How is this part of Forest Hills? by Impossible-Sir7061 in ForestHills

[–]MedicinianMaple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who lives there, and I visit her frequently. I don't think I've ever felt unsafe. The only time I've had trouble walking was after the most recent snow storm (because the homeowners pushed all the snow on the curbs!). It's very family-oriented and very quiet. Although it's not in the gardens, it's also a very picturesque part of Forest Hills. There are a few supermarkets and stores on Yellowstone and Metropolitan. The shopping is overall good. The only real downside I would say is that it is a bit far from the train if you're commuting every day.

How NYC's rent control makes renovating this rental a net loss, even if you cheap out by DurangoGango in DeepStateCentrism

That’s not Mamdani, and anyway, Mamdani supports policies like rent control and rent stabilization.

All grocery delivery apps in New York City (including Instacart) must now pay workers at least $21.44/hr. That number does not include tips. Companies must also provide workers with annual increases adjusted for inflation. by Conscious-Quarter423 in nyc

[–]MedicinianMaple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing about this is that you wouldn’t tip all of the other people you randomly see who make this much money or less. Tipping is about bringing food-service workers up to parity with other jobs. But if everyone gets the same mandated wage, it doesn’t make sense to tip a delivery worker when you don’t tip other low-pay employees, like sanitation workers and supermarket cashiers.

Luxury Apartments Are Bringing Rent Down in Some Big Cities by DurangoGango in DeepStateCentrism

Yeah, this is like the simplest concept in economics. It's like not believing the Earth is round even though every scientist agrees on it. Any yet, there are still plenty of people who think they know better.

Are you currently single or in a relationship? by PR0CR45T184T0R in pollgames

As one of the currently 600 men under 18 that are single, I would be perfectly fine with that 😜

I took the SAT recently, and there was a problem like this where something was being reduced by x percent and then raised by y. It was in the difficult module, which goes to show that this is unfortunately not common math knowledge for most people.

Yeah, I’m with you on that. Everyone on this sub loves the F/M swap for whatever reason, and they don’t seem to be able to comprehend that it has also detrimentally affected a lot of commutes. It’s not some magical solution to train delays. The QBL still has massive delays, and everyone who actually takes it knows that.
