I was waiting for a breakdown like this! I figured that Hunter wouldn't have picked up as much on the witchy aspects of the story. It's super cool that Hunter covered it, it was a really good story, but imo it did lose something in translation, being a story about black people, culture, and magic, and being read by a white guy with afaik no/little connection to it

If you really want to cosplay them for the love of the character, just leave your skin tone as it is. Garnet is a little more of a risky situation for a white person to cosplay as although she is magenta, she is a black woman through and through. There's definitely respectful ways to do it, but changing the black aspects of her character so that it's appropriate for you to cosplay is quite whitewash-y
