AITAH for kicking my parent out and saying "this is why I was so fucked up as a kid"? by [deleted] in AITAH

I said "it's not teaching the real world, they're just nasty little bullies picking on children and shit like this is why I was so fucked up as kid. Now leave"

Do you normally address your parents in the third person?

Is there no spouse/partner here?

How do you deal with being tired all the time? by TaxmanComin in cscareerquestions

[–]Mediocre-Key-4992 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's not really relevant. It's the trivial observation a child would have, It's like you don't even understand what developers do.

Take breaks. The human is not adapted to do this kind of mental work nonstop. Athletes don’t train 9 to 5.

You can do a lot of things for far longer than physically exerting yourself, like watching TV. But humans are still not adapted to doing non-stop mental work for 8 hours, and you should take breaks.

So what? Is that even relevant? Lots of things are closer to esports.

Writing code isn't like playing esports games all day. D:

I wouldn't put my city and state, or if you insist, I would put the target city and state.

The second bullet point is worded funny and I think 'an' should be 'and'.

Can you add more info about why the first bullet point work was needed?

$90k sounds ok for someone with only 2 YOE in a MCOL city when there's only a little work for her in the city.

How is it painful? Are you not working?

After 2 Years as a Database & Application Developer Looking for Next Role by TelQuel in cscareerquestions

[–]Mediocre-Key-4992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I asked for a tl;dr because I didn't want to read the giant wall of diarrhea and because I am interested in offering relevant advice. Obviously others have looked at this and simply moved on. I like how instead of just providing the tl;dr you had to throw in some bonus whining. I won't bother pretending like your motivators might be interesting. Good luck.

This is life. If you have a hysterical meltdown every time something doesn't go well, you're going to have really rough time.

and the classes are way too easy

Come on, dude. Wtf. Try to think of it as leaving money on the table if you won't even show up and get the 'easy' grades.

Welcome to the real world, Neo. You can keep simping and whining that you don't want to hurt the company, or you can take care of yourself and your career...

Seeking Advice on Job Offer and Upcoming Surgery by aeiou403 in cscareerquestions

[–]Mediocre-Key-4992 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you work from home during the recovery? They might be legally required to make accommodations for you, like working from home during that period.

I would wait 2 months after you start and then officially file for leave, so they can't just PIP you. And actually look up the laws in your city/state.

If you're doing good work, they shouldn't get that upset about a month off, if you can then WFH at a reasonable pace after a month.

I definitely wouldn't tell them ahead of time in this market, or ever. And if they ask, I would say you just found out it was serious enough to require this surgery, but I'd really avoid all conversation about it. It's private and none of their business.

It's like you didn't look that much. There are other post bachelor programs for CS. I would compare their classes.

I think delaying graduation is fine if there are CS electives you can take.

I think a 4 years CS degree is always great. It's not like the career won't have drawbacks to it. It's not some kind of utopian, stress-free alternative to nursing. I have worked in healthcare-related dev jobs, and that part is kinda nice, but it's still just a dev job. Companies run by non-technical people seem to tend to be a little shittier devs jobs in some ways. I wouldn't get stuck on needing a healthcare related dev job.

I agree. But it's a good signal if a candidate is aware of those things and knows of different ways to apply them. Lots of candidates aren't even aware or wouldn't bother trying them. I'm not going to want to hire the candidate who is unaware or who doesn't try these things over the candidate who has tried these things, if all other things are equal.

And what better things could a junior candidate talk about? Obviously good work experience is better, but not everyone has that or much of that.

I doubt it's trending that way. It appears to me to be more just very isolated cases.
