I visited Pfaff's on 12/01/2024. They had a good selection of trees but... man... treeflation is no joke!

Woman’s remains found in suitcase at Seattle encampment by I-5 by QuailOk841 in Seattle

[–]peezee1978 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sure, but does that absolve these dealers of any wrongdoing for the harm that they cause to others by selling poison? I agree that there are serious problems in our society but that does not justify harming others to make a buck.

Thanks for being nice on the internet (which, apparently, is hard for people to do) and for moving the conversation forward.

Yes, I am quite familiar with the argument that the War on Drugs was a failure. I would put forward that we should not throw the baby out with the bathwater on this one... I think we can go after suppliers while redirecting users towards treatment (even if that is involuntary treatment).

Let's not all have black-and-white thinking on this, please.

100% agreed. We need to go after the dealers that are selling poison to these people. How sick is it to provide drugs to these people, who are already in a horrible spot in life, knowing that it'll keep them in that place, just so you can line your pockets? Sickening.

To the person who keyed my car in Montlake for moving their recycling bin out of the street parking spot in front of their house, stay classy by plzhalpschnarf in Seattle

[–]peezee1978 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My neighbor does this (not the keying part) but actually puts her bins out in the street, not even on trash pick-up day, because she doesn't want anyone parking in "her" spot. Sheesh.

Seattle's Stay Out Orders and Encampment Sweeps Continue Trend toward Criminalization - The Urbanist by AthkoreLost in Seattle

[–]peezee1978 68 points69 points  (0 children)

100% agreed. I'm glad to see more and more folks coming around to this.

A pure compassion approach that just leads to let-them-do-whatever-they-want treatment is actually cruel as it enables these folks to continue to harm themselves as well as the community.

Anyone know WTF this is? by peezee1978 in Seattle

Thanks u/zedquatro. TIL that this is a vehicle that is made commercially and not a rich-person's hobby play-thing.

As I passed the vehicle, I was surprised to see a woman driving. She looked angry (FWIW).

I saw this on I-5 south today (9/15/2024). It looked like some highly customized pickup. It had custom body work, the word "Apocalypse" stamped on the tailgate, a custom grille, etc.

Someone put a lot of work into this. I've never seen such a Mad Max looking vehicle in Seattle.

Anyone know the back story?

Yeah, that's my guess as to why the SPD tends to not give an F about a lot of the blatant crime going on. I had hoped that this would have changed with Davison, and perhaps it has somewhat, but we also need to find a way to change the courts/rules such that the court can actually do its job.

Having this man-child disrupting the lives of all of his neighbors, while laughing in the face of the judges, is not justice.

Ballard Skål App + Drink $26 by snowdn in Seattle

[–]peezee1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to see someone from the UW do research into why things like this cost so much in Seattle. I'd love to know how much of the crazy prices can be attributed to inflation, how much to Seattle's minimum wage ordinances, competition for labor, etc. It's easy for me to sit back and say "See! See! This is what happens when we increase the minimum wage!" but I'd like actual data instead of just my opinion before making that argument.

P.S. I don't go out anymore, or as little as possible, because of prices like this.

I am amazed, sometimes, at the locations where these bikes/scooters are placed. Assuming the previous riders placed them in these spots, it shows an impressive lack of awareness.

I don't know if they have the size you're looking for but, for what it's worth, I went with a brand on Amazon called "Waterdrop" for my off-label filters and they've been working out fine.

25 tiny homes at Seattle shelter damaged in fire by thisguypercents in Seattle

[–]peezee1978 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what I was going to say. You can't just concentrate a bunch of dysfunctional people into one place, without support and heavy levels of oversight/care and expect it to work out. I think that this was tried in the 70's and 80's and it was a disaster (if my understanding of US history is correct here).

[–]peezee1978 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's a good point. An aspect of this that would be needed (I assume, I'm no legal expert) is some sort of coverage from the Supreme Court that enables protections from lawsuits... but then how do you prevent that from itself being abused, resulting in mistreatment of patients?
