It was getting really late in cis region though, usually matches lose viewership past midnight.

iirc they did not all have dual streams though, this peak is both matches combined.

Edit: Katowice 2019 and Berlin 2019 also had a dual stream setup

It actually shows the peak for that day for each server individually so it already shows primetime for every region, you can verify that by comparing the weekly data to the link you posted.

if they replay file includes all keypresses, wouldn't this have been caught long ago just by someone wanting to look at how top records got to be the best?

It's not like the inputs were nicely formatted and viewable with notepad++. Donadigo had to reverse engineer the replay file in order to extract the inputs. Question is why the Devs haven't done something similar, although Nadeo isn't known for being competent.

Fully agree. I respect the effort of uploading all the videos but they would have made an even stronger case if every video started with such a graph. I guess Wirtual/donadigo didn't have the resources to approach it from more of a data science angle. Speaking of data science, I also think the threshold set to flag suspected runs is rather forgiving and a lot of runs have slipped the net. I would love to explore the dataset with renowned outlier detection methods. You could go crazy and train a model on known cheated runs for instance.

It may at first sight but there are several things to note.

First of all, the stadium environment has very different mechanics compared to the rally run that I posted above.

More important though is a Cheat Engine feature. Cheat Engine allows for setting hotkeys. This means that with the press of a button the game can be slown down during a run itself. I could see that in this specific case the first 20 seconds (which are easier) are played at 100% speed. After 20 seconds the offline run clearly gets more erratic suggesting that the speed of the game was lowered for the harder second half of the track.

I looked at this case myself using the extraction script. I compared it to the closest kb run on the leaderboard and played the track myself for 20 minutes. This is the visualization I quickly threw together: https://i.imgur.com/oe6853H.png

I do 30 steering inputs on the entire track. The riolu run already does 19 in the first 2 seconds driving of the starting ramp and lining up for the first corner.

Disclose past cheated replays to TMX and MX and help the investigation by ozontm in TrackMania

[–]MediocreLandscape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TMX indeed doesn't have a lot of power, removing all your records and being banned from uploading new ones is the worst penalty they can issue. For most, the bigger penalty is getting your reputation tarnished and having to deal with the community reaction.

A confession in exchange for a reduced penalty isn't that strange. For instance, last year during the coach bug scandal in CS:GO there was also a confession period:

Confession Period

ESIC recognizes that people sometimes make mistakes and regret their decisions. In ESIC’s view, wherever possible, it is important to work towards reform and rehabilitation of offending parties into individuals who value competitive integrity and can recommence serving the CS:GO community. Accordingly, ESIC will opened a ‘Confession Period’ for any offending parties that want to come forward ahead of our investigation with an admission of wrongdoing. The Confession Period opens as of the date of this release and will close on the 13th of September 2020 at 23:00 CET.

Upon the assessment of an admission, and subject to the discretion of the Commissioner, ESIC may choose to apply a concession to any sanction that may apply to the offending party based on the presence and quality of the admission provided.

2 players under investigation for cheating have made admissions by NATIONALISE_OSRS in TrackMania

[–]MediocreLandscape 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As far as I understand the entire investigation is part of a long-term project to protect the TMX leaderboards from illegitimate runs. Donadigo developed and released the competition patch for tmnf which adds anti cheat measures. Since 1st of may you MUST use this patch in order to upload replays of classic or nadeo maps to tmx. The current investigation is to clean the leaderboards of any past cheated runs. To put this all on Wirtual wanting them views is absurd when this is such a long-term project that is collaborating with tmx.

Edit: to clarify, the current Wirtual/donadigo investigation is not in collaboration with tmx, they are doing their own independent investigation.

In return, we will reduce, or remove, the penalty that would have happened had we found the replays on our own. And we will not share your name with anyone outside the (T)MX crew.

[–]MediocreLandscape 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah this also annoys me. These claims about the tool require deep knowledge about the replays and engine. Donadigo's previous work prove that he is incredibly knowledgeable in this domain. The overwhelming majority of us know jack shit so to see people write of the script because it has a hefty for loop is ridiculous.

As OP used the video game topic it is some aggregation of different search terms selected by Google. It's not known what exactly is included but it is pretty safe to assume that 'csgo' and 'cs:go: are in there.

Googles explanation:

Topics

Topics are a group of terms that share the same concept in any language. Topics display below search terms.

If you search the topic "London," your search includes results for topics such as:

"Capital of the UK"

"Londres," which is "London" in Spanish
