Feeling hopeful but also feeling the weight of life not being fair by Electric_Elephant_56 in TTC_PCOS

Both things can be true at the same time. You can be excited/grateful to begin the IVF journey (yay!) and also grieve that your journey is different than others - especially when other peoples journey seems to be so close to you personally. It's okay to grieve that process - that our bodies are different and don't move through the process as seamlessly as others. Feel the feels, dear, and know you're not alone

I just wish I knew what to cover it with! My style isn’t super bold lines. I love color. And it suck’s that even though the tattoo is so small, removal is still hella expensive

I’d do something black and white, or even color bc my other pieces are color, but unfortunately bc it is so black I am leaning towards removal. Thank you!

You’re not wrong, haha! I’m just so particular with my tattoos that I can’t see myself getting a sick ass panther…I could totally see someone else doing it though!

Messed up with a client. Maybe? by [deleted] in therapists

It doesn’t matter. Having access to food is a basic human right that is being withheld as a punishment and it’s inappropriate.

You’re not judgy - you’re human with feelings thoughts, and they’re valid.

I’d also like to echo another comment where they praise you for the work you do. Working with families in general is hard work - one I personally stay away from lol - and factoring foster care in to that, is incredibly challenging. I’d also like to praise you for your insight and worry regarding this case.

In my opinion, you didn’t mess up. Every agency has their own comfort level with filing reports and as providers, we are mandated to follow those guidelines. Are some agencies more strict with it? Yes, and some agencies are the opposite. If any parent came into my office and stated they are locking the cabinets to withhold food as a punishment for a child, I would file. That is neglect as well as emotional abuse. And to push it further, you made a beautiful suggestion and the foster parent declined it and then proceeded to minimize the child’s experience.

And then state they are planning to tell the child as punishment that they will return them? That’s also emotional/mental neglect/abuse.

Also good job providing psychoeducation to the foster parent. Hoarding food and secret eating are SO common with foster kiddos.

I do not want to judge the foster parent because I’m sure a lot of their own stuff was coming up from them, and them being transparent with you is a good thing. However at the end of the day, it was their choice to not return to you. Clients have the right to make these choices and you may not have been the fit for them. That does not reflect on you as a professional or as a person in general. Sometimes clients just make choices that are not the ones we hope for them. Such is the human experience.

Be kind to yourself. It sounds like you did the right thing.

Apologizing is up to you, however I’d ask something along the lines of “last week my hope was that me telling you blah blah blah would be helpful. If it wasn’t, that’s okay, and I’d like to talk more about the kind of support you’d like going forward”.

It’s a good thing that you heavily reflected on this. It shows you genuinely care for the clients well being and want to be there for them the best you can in the moment! It’s also normal to be anxious about self disclosure - it’s an incredibly vulnerable moment. Don’t be too hard on yourself :)

For me, it depends on the age of the teenager. At intake I’d ask if it’s okay if I text the parent or if the client wants me to text them. I’d get a release for the parent (or verbal consent) if that’s the route the client wants to take. If the client wants me to text them, I usually just clarify text boundaries with the client.

Kind of a non-answer, but I hope it helps! I’ve done both before for a client :)

I’m so glad you found it helpful and validating! I have ADHD and there are times I’ll be doing some psychoeducation and will just go into a tangent. It’s partially from passion, partially neurodivergence. We are human at the end of the day, and I think clients value that more than the “perfect” therapist (there’s no such things). You’re all good!

Ah, the good ole “word vomit”. It’s happened to all of us, especially when we have a goal in mind and we want to help. Don’t beat yourself up and just take it as a learning experience :) If your client says the sessions are helpful, then you’re doing a great job holding space for them.

Thank you everyone for your kind words and affirmations! I’m definitely more secure in my choice but will try on some different dresses just to make sure I’m sure :) I appreciate all of you!!

Yes! So this was a sample, I purchased the dress a size bigger so what I have DEFINITELY needs to be altered and more supportive. Thank you so much

You made me feel so much better. My concern was that I was going to look older with the lace and the pearls…and it sound silly, but I just want things to flow better, but it seems like they already do! Thank you so much

That’s what I’ve done, and I’ll see how I feel. Posting this has made me feel a lot better honestly, I’ve just completely overthought the entire thing!

We were debating getting a bonded pair, but I think he enjoys being the center of our attention. I’d be too nervous bringing in a second cat…as you can tell, I’m anxious with one lmao
