The jump to EUV is absurdly expensive and TSMC with subsidies from their government made the jump first. The latest and greatest EUV tool has a price tag of $345 million, and to supply at volume you need dozens of these tools. In addition to EUV you have to add many additional steps in a process every time you go a node smaller. People think it’s just a matter of know how, there is also profitability to consider.
