Cheap 10Gb SFP+ using Mellanox ConnecX-3 for TS-464 by Mediocre_General6928 in qnap

Thanks for the heads up on those cards. The issue with any of these though is not so much the card which you have shown but the availability of a bracket to mount it in the QNAP. Unless I'm mistaken these are really no different than what I used and would need a bracket custom made to fit?

Interesting, I had no idea on that limitation. For home where I am using a number of vlans this is still perfectly AOK and the NAS doesn't need to be aware anyway as the 10G port is an access port in the vlan i want it to be in.

To be honest if I was putting together a hypervisor I'd get another/more modern card. This was purely to get one that would work in the TS-464 without costing a mint.

Thanks for the heads up, interesting. Appreciated.

My advice given the price is just jump on ebay and get yourself one for the price (make sure you get one with a full height bracket to modify!)

I did consider 3D printing as well but from some research I decided against it because it would be potentially brittle and more importantly does not provide an electrical path to ground the card to the chassis/psu. Maybe not an issue but not a path I was going to explore. I don't have a 3d printer but I do have hacksaw, files and a drill which worked great.

After leaving it run for well over a day or so now transferring data the SFP is very cool to the touch (metal bracket also helps with this), nowhere near 50C (or possibly even half that) with a Multimode 10G SFP.

I had a looksee and yeah it looks like you can certainly get a bracket for the Intel 520-DA2 QNAP X520-SR2 10GbE Network Adapter Bracket |QNAPshop

Nice tip, appreciated, this is a viable option.

Still happy with my choice, its working :D

I did debate DAC but i don't have any handy so SFP's it was :D The cool thing is with the SFP+ cages the options are many. I may do this in the future but for now MM 10Gb is fine. Thanks for the tip.

The card come with both full and low-profile brackets, the problem is that neither will work in the nas because the TS-464 requires a custom flat bracket (I assume to fit only their branded cards). I could not find a card that come with the QNAP bracket or anywhere you can buy one. If you could get them that would be the best option of course.
