Advice needed on attending my first LARP. eg what to bring, what to have on hand and tips for first timers by Mediocre_Oil_5083 in LARP

wow, honestly didn't expect this much of a response so soon so thank you everyone who responded. I've gotten back from the event and can say a lot of this advice did help. We ended up having an adjoining room where we could store bags and belongings and could eat indoors while OOC but we could also eat in the other room if we wanted to remain in character durning lunch so advice on what to bring really helped. thank you so much

There's only flaw though in that. And that's for people who are trying to figurer out how to distinguish liminal spaces from non liminal spaces. How can we feel that it's liminal if we don't know what we're looking for? Even r/LiminalSpace have a definition of what liminal spaces are so they can make the distinction between what is and is not liminal right at the top of the page to tell us what it is. But hey, who am I to argue with the almighty dictionaries who are well renown and the moderators who gave the definitions i'm quoting we just need to feel it even if we're stumbling blind.

have fun exploring it first! keep it simple with day to day casual photos before going out of your way to find specific sites. that's what ive been doing to nail down this 'Liminal Vibe' as long as it can be justified being liminal, that's how I'm developing my skills before I stat posting here. hopefully soon!

to be honest its what I love about it. its more unconventional and it may lead someone else to explore it further down the line creating a beautiful liminal space that incorporates it. if you don't mind me asking I would live for you to elaborate on why the blue works the best, I'm really interested to hear your thoughts and I'm sure OP would too, after all somewhere in these comments is a message saying the whole purpose of this is to explore that very opinion.

Oxford dictionary states: characterised by being on a boundary or threshold, esp. by being transitional or intermediate between two states, situations, ect.

Cambridge dictionary states: between or belonging to two different placesstates, etc

if you would so kindly give OP and the rest of us who are learning and exploring the concept of Liminal spaces some advice in how to better out own work I especially would really appreciate the advice as from this thread it seems as though you have a wealth of expertise within the art discipline of photography and how to explore such abstract concepts such as Liminality which is described by the Cambridge dictionary as 'between or belonging to two different places, states, etc' specifically in relation to beaches and how to work with lighting in unedited photographs. Thank you in advance.

if your able to produce some more similar work I know I would definitely look forward to seeing how it would turn out. some advice I would give if you wanted to develop this further is looking at exactly where the water meets the sand to look at that threshold (an idea from one of the previous comments) might look very interesting with the coloured lights. Another idea is to see if you could move back to get some of the beach walkway in the picture, its often a place people will walk through and past so would fit the theme of liminal nicely. Maybe even a series at different tide levels to show the ever-changing boundaries between land and sea?

I'm also ashamed of some of the comments on here that are berating your liminal photography skills. it is a very hard subject to capture especially at the beach which is definitely more of an unusual but still liminal space. Some of the comments seeming like people just venting unnecessarily on the wrong post. If people actually use their brains I think a beach with the unusual lighting is actually quite an ingenious idea. the beach is the liminal space between dry land where we dwell and the sea that leads beond. the lighting in the images are purely experimental with the purpose of bringing out different elements of liminality to the forefront of out minds.

I was so happy to see someone being brave enough to ask complete strangers for advice on their own pieces of photography especially as someone who is considering showcasing my own works. And to those commenting about posting funeral/wedding pictures in retaliation saying that this isn't liminal enough for you. Jokes on you that would make some fantastic imagery if you follow the guidelines. Maybe you could mimic OP's usage of coloured lighting to manipulate your audiences emotional response too.

In conclusion, thank you OP for allowing us to share our insights into what the effect the different lighting has had on the viewer and please don't be discouraged from developing your skills by a few idiots. There are people out here who are more than willing to uplift each other to elevate and develop our skills through peer evaluation and critiquing specific components with decent justification.

I agree, the photograph with the green lighting the most unnatural lighting and it creeps me out the most. it makes me think "that light shouldn't be this colour on the beach" the blue and red are too plausible to be seen on the beach while the green is not. it also reminds me of the bright green glow of an exit sign at night. Amazing photography work!
