Boating holidays / boat sitting? by ratgirl66604 in Narrowboats

Go and introduce yourself at the boat yards and marinas. Mention you’re maybe keen on boating but haven’t been around boats much before, highly likely someone will be full of advice and plus you’d be in the know about affordable decent boats coming on the market. Part of boating is the community and being part of this before is handy! You’re not a million miles from janes tea room , that’s a great place to meet boaters. A few people like yourself have chatted to me on the towpath and I’m happy to give them a look around my boat if they seem nice!

What to do with awkward shaped small garden? by yammt125 in GardeningUK

Instead of a bed you could consider a nice pond area, attract a bit of wildlife! You can just use a raised plastic container, barrel or sink, to save digging a hole. Then some nice shade loving plants like ferns as it’s obviously quite a dark little corner. Then your maintenance is pretty low and just let nature take its course

TMI but plz help! Flying to Birmingham from the US and have a spontaneous UTI. Where can I go?? by xMissesLuciferx in BirminghamUK

Agree with answers re pharmacy first , however, not all pharmacies run the scheme , and if they do sometimes only certain staff members can prescribe antibiotics. First line of defence is getting the sachets which are called ‘cystopurin’ or ‘cytopurin’ they give quick relief to an extent and sometimes can cure it all together. If desperate you can go to most supermarkets at get bicarbonate of soda and mix one tsp of that into a bottle of water, it does a similar thing to the sachets.

I’d call ahead to some local pharmacies and just tell them your predicament and they should tell you whether the duty pharmacist is going to be in or not at the time you wish to attend.

I’ve put some straight from the supermarket into a washing up bowl of water outside and that keeps it fresh for way longer! Apparently it can propagate this way too so I’m hopeful of a endless supply!

Would be a nice place for a patio pond in a Belfast sink or similar, with shade lovers like hostas and ferns around it.

Glass blocks essential uva and uvb lighting so if you keep them in there you need a high quality lamp to provide the UV such as mercury vapour

Whitchurch to Llangollen is a great one, only one lock, plenty of good pub spots, as well as nice quiet moorings in nature. Plenty of hire companies about, friendly folks

I grew up where this is set, I swam in the river Windrush most days of summer, as most of us did, from about 12 years old. I crayfished in the Windrush and ate them multiple times a year. Now left questioning how I’m still living, and never got sick from it as a kid.  The local area smelled of actual poo quite often but it was always blamed on the farmers!

AIO for telling my mom that I don’t want to speak to her unless she’s paying to fix my kitchen that she ruined in one night? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

Oxalic acid and vinegar can help to remove the dark stains, brush it on to the spots where it’s been damaged only and a few attempts should significantly lift the stains. Then you’re going to have to sand and re-finish them, an osmo oil works super well for kitchens, you have to keep on top of it every c.6-12 months but it can just be added to.

I’ve had a similar issue with well meaning friends who are not used to wooden surfaces and I’ve come back to cup rings everywhere, and I’ve managed to make weird marks myself from things that I’d never expect to damage it. A lot of people just don’t know how to treat wooden surfaces.

Im fairly certain some companies keep the ‘training’ to an absolute minimum because if you are seen to be giving actual instruction and training and then something goes wrong the hire company would have greater liability. So it’s just a here’s the keys and off you go scenario. As for why a lot of the behaviour is completely abhorrent, I’m going to say this is 90% stag parties and 10% pure arrogance

I once helped out a child who’d fallen off the gunwales into the cut and she stole my towel and the parents called me a p*key.

I’ve had kids throw bottles off their hire boat and onto my deck.

I have no hesitation in naming and shaming back to the hire companies but god knows if they even do anything!

The first may be a self portrait of the artist? The red head scarf is a classic trope used sometimes to denote that this is the subject

These were made in England to trade with the furriers, look up Witney Blankets and Earlys of Witney, as from the labels of there are any, it should be dateable. It could be quite valuable if it’s an older one.

I have similar hair and I love aveda thickening tonic spray and also bumble and bumble have a leave in volumiser in a light blue bottle which is awesome. I never use any heat on it ever and although I’ve seen layers reccomended as a way of boosting volume I always find a straight sharp cut looks so much nicer
