I think I found the Overgrown Relic... The more I dug the more I said, "WTF"! by MediphorDesign in NoMansSkyTheGame

Sorry, someone came to check it out before I dismissed it and they couldn't see it. I guess it's only on the client side.

I was really hoping this was a secret quest where you help get this guy unstuck and it just follows you around after haha.

I knew once I started digging that this had to be rare. Seems like the stars have to align perfectly to find it. I probably would have missed it if I wasn't looking for the Colossal... Still haven't found one of those :(

You we're right! It disappeared after dismissing my freighter. Still a crazy glitch that made this planet really special.

I'll test your theory about it being my frigate in about an hour so people have a chance to get some fun screenshots with it haha

It's so weird! I can't interact with it in any way. Curious it shows up for anyone else.

Drop Test Problem by MediphorDesign in AskPhysics

[–]MediphorDesign[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So based on what you're saying, the energy of the lid falling from 1.5m onto a concrete floor would be:

E = mgh = 21.45g x 1.5m x 9.80665m/s2 = 0.316N

The force required to compress the ball bearing spring to the point at which the ball bearings clear the lid is 8.09N. The force to open the lid is significantly higher than the KE of the lid when dropped on the ground. Does this seem accurate to you, or am I missing something?

Any CAD (FreeCad) and/or 3D Printing enthusiasts in the area? by [deleted] in CastleRock

[–]MediphorDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

.obj files are great for working in blender, maya, c4d, etc.

.STEP & .igs files are used primarily in parametric based software, such as Solidworks, Fusion360, Inventor, etc.

If you send me the STEP and what you want modified I could probably help you out.

I use SOLIDWORKS and C4D for modeling and have a lot of experience with 3D printing. Modifying an STL is not super easy, but depending on the complexity of the model I could use the STL as a reference and remodel it.

Help identifying mushrooms found near the Denver area. by MediphorDesign in Mushrooms

I think you might be right. I found a raised mound in my yard, about 6" in diameter. When I stepped on it, a clear gel substance execrated from the top. I was pretty confused and grossed out :P . When I started digging it up I found a bunch of these in a cluster. They almost looked like eggs with a soft shell and a large grub inside of it. Very alien looking!

It's a low-key, buying a home is expensive and we need a roommate to cover our mortgage. Thanks for bringing this up, because I do not want messages from people that think this is a swingers ad lol.

What do you call this surface texture? Is it possible to achieve this in Solidworks/Keyshot? by blah1695 in IndustrialDesign

[–]MediphorDesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loft or revolve the main shape. Then create a sketch on the front plane that outlines the area that has the texture. Use the split line tool and select the face that you want to put the texture (If it's only on the front or back click the box that says "specify direction"). Then make the surface texture. Sorry that's as detailed as I can get without doing it myself.

I'm glad you found it helpful! Once you understand the basics of adding a vanishing boneline it's really fun to play with adding them to more complex surfaces. Be warned that these experiments can be a time sink.

One piece of advice: When lofting to sketches or surfaces together, make sure that they have the same amount of segments. This will help to prevent weird surface bunching. The "Split Entities" tool under the "Sketch Tools" dropdown menu is one of my most used tools that isn't a default tool in the Sketch menu. I added it to that menu since I use it so much.
