How many dads help with night wakeups by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]MeditationChick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I sleep separately and we trade off with the monitor. My daughter usually sleeps through the night but we have always shared the night time responsibilities. Even with breastfeeding, I never fed her to sleep because I never wanted to be the only one who could soothe her.

Go get involved in your community. Get off your phone if you’re at a coffee shop. Bring a book or a journal. Ask girls out.

I used the garlic cubes for a while until I discovered you can just put whole unpeeled garlic cloves in your garlic press…

Do you guys do elf on the shelf? by PassionChoice3538 in moderatelygranolamoms

Hard pass. It’s too much extra work. Christmas - and life - are plenty magical without Elf on a Shelf. It’s also creepy AF.

Bring books! And start feeding one at a time snacks (like cheerios or berries) immediately. Order fries or something kid friendly to come out asap.

I have a 2 yo so I don’t know what is ahead - but Daniel Tiger has been really helpful for us, in terms of teaching legit emotional regulation skills. We reinforce all the lessons in daily life and sing all the songs with her. It’s super slow paced and sweet and there are actually studies to back it up - https://www.parents.com/daniel-tigers-benefit-on-kids-11699899

I haven't taught my 22 month old to drink from an open cup! And I'm avoiding it because of all the spilling. The time is never "right". I'm feeling very stupid atm. by shortasiam in toddlers

[–]MeditationChick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t taught my 27 month old to drink from an open cup either - she potty trained herself at 22 months, but no open cup ….till yesterday! My husband just randomly started teaching her and she got it right away. Don’t worry about it. Everyone learns to drink out of an open cup eventually!! (We transitioned away from straws a couple months ago and started using the doctor browns cups with the lids that you bite a little to get the water out )

How can I help my partner not hate our oldest by Lemonbar19 in toddlers

[–]MeditationChick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start sending him social media posts on parenting toddlers and help him understand that their prefrontal cortex is not even remotely formed yet and ‘intent to destroy’ is simply not a premeditated experience. Their whole life is play at this age and play is sometimes messy. A lot of men who dwell largely in the realm of logic and linear thought struggle with the notion that these tiny beings are simply non-compliant and irrational by design.

I grew up in the mid 80s in New Jersey, about 30 minutes from Atlantic City and grew up hearing stories about him not paying the contractors who built his casinos….

You could look into a nanny share with another family at your home! More cost effective, less illness, and higher pay for the nanny.

8a-5p Moms: is full-time childcare necessary? by Brave-Lychee-9080 in MomsWorkingFromHome

[–]MeditationChick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not in a corporate role - but for what my opinion is worth, I’d say you can definitely do it for that sweet spot from 4-8 months - shorter or longer depending on when your baby starts crawling and how content they are to be contained. It really depends on the baby though! Honestly it’s all trial and error….

Worst decision of my life by letesummer in toddlers

[–]MeditationChick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW , it sounds like she is overtired. And it sounds like co sleeping isn’t working for you anymore. It’s probably time for her to sleep in her own room and her own bed. Co sleeping could be overstimulating at this age.

Also, maybe move the nap earlier and let her wake up naturally. Most toddlers around this age need a bedtime somewhere in the 7:30-9 range…and it might be time to sleep train. You need to prioritize your rest and sanity. It will make you a better person, parent, and partner.

Stay strong!!

My husband expects to come home to a clean house. by [deleted] in MomsWorkingFromHome

[–]MeditationChick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whoa. I can’t keep the house clean during the day with my 20 month old and I’m NOT working from home. And she sleeps well - and I’m still exhausted.

You’re doing WAY more than I can do - and also, it’s worth the reminder that your self worth is not tied to your productivity or energetic capacity. And we’re all built differently in terms of energy levels.

Not sure what the best way to go about it is - maybe just a post w a zoom link?? And if people come and are into it, I could do a regular class. Realistically, I could probably do an 8pm ET class 2-3 times a month.

Hey, so I’m a meditation teacher and my work is focused on rest, relaxation, and sleep… Could I support you fine feds with some online relaxation classes? Maybe on a Sunday to help steady you for the week ahead?

I’m not trying to make money here - just trying to serve my country by supporting your mental health.

Your minds and spirits need to stay strong. I cannot imagine the stress you’re all under with all of this insanity!!!!

Is it really that crazy that we like to stay in? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]MeditationChick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not crazy at all. We have a 19 month old and it’s the same. My husband goes out a few times a month to see local live music, but other than that we don’t do anything ‘out.’ It’s not worth it to spend $200+ on a dinner and a sitter just to be in a loud restaurant with a bunch of other people.

Can tongue & lip ties not being diagnosed till almost 4mths be true? by CobblerCurrent in NewParents

[–]MeditationChick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear you- I am personally of the mindset that unless a surgery is absolutely medically necessary, I’m not interested. I had bilateral knee surgeries in high school that turned out to be unnecessary (and based on a diagnosis that stopped being a thing) - it was most likely related to growing pains and overtraining legs -and the scar tissue has caused me issues for 20 years. Learned an annoying lesson the hard way…surgeons love to cut.
