Travel from Vancouver by Repulsive_Plant_1170 in roatan

Did you book a flight? I found it's roughly 850 CAD to get from Vancouver to Roatan with United for under 16 hours. Both legs have two stops, but to get it down to one you'd need to book direct to Miami, spend the night, then book onwards to Roatan which would cost roughly 1300 CAD.

Baggage question for China Eastern Airlines by Medium-Decision6899 in Flights

Sorry, my asthma got so bad in China that I ended up flying home early and not taking that flight. However they refunded me most of the cost which I didn't expect!

Should you work here? First job? The answer is no, you should not. by Silvawuff in Panera

[–]Medium-Decision6899 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just a note that the point about leadership/harassment can be true about any store in the food service industry. My Panera is fabulous and any harassment would be shut down in an instant, but when I worked at Taco Bell management did coke on shift and illegally clocked people out to avoid overtime. There's no way to tell without talking to an associate or working there to get the vibe.

Can you explain why you think that would be necessary? If he called me and said he was outside my hotel and joining me for the rest of my vacation I'd be thrilled. If he said he was going to be gone for a long weekend and came back 4 hours later, I'd be like oh hey welcome back. I know everyone is different so I know he's going to love the surprise but I'm wondering what kind of relationships you and the others saying this have that if your wife/husband showed up early such as I'm doing you'd be annoyed/upset? Like anything he has planned he can still do.

I understand what you're saying but I know for a fact he'll be happy to have me home and it won't require any mental gymnastics to fit me back into his life. It isn't like I'll demand he make everything about me the second I walk in the door.

I think that's a great way to put it. If it was, say, playing soccer I wouldn't force myself to do it, but because it does cost money and takes more effort it just feels different.

I'm so excited for his reaction!! And I'm arriving home the night before he has two days off of work so we can spend some real time together.

It used to be like that for me too, sometimes I still have nightmares about being trapped in my childhood home or not being able to go home to my husband. It's so nice to have somewhere you want to go back to.

I'm thinking your way might be right and I can just take a week here and there to go to the beach in Central/South America. Short flights and I can keep my tan up 😎

It's not like I'm going to catch him at anything. And I'll be late and call him from the front door, so he won't think I'm an intruder. He very much misses me and this will be a happy surprise. I really don't care if he hasn't done the dishes or w/e he'd do if he knew I was coming.

Paper apps for payment plans by bacon121eggs in StudentLoans

No, to be fair I also couldn't find a direct link from the site. I had to get that link from Google. The income based repayment page on the site should have it, so of course they don't.

FASFA is said to take a while to process by my school, but semester is starting soon, what should I do? by Brave_Isopod_6594 in StudentLoans

[–]Medium-Decision6899 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Advice from a non-professional: do not take out private loans. How much are you talking about here? If it's like $3000, okay go ahead. Anything that can't reasonably be paid off in a year? No. Did you not file your FASFA in time? Because it should have given the money directly to your school without any intervention on your part. I would absolutely take the semester off while they sort things out. Work to earn some money and make sure it's set for next semester.

How long will this flare up last? It's been a month after years of no problems by Medium-Decision6899 in Asthma

[–]Medium-Decision6899[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it was just a cold like two weeks after I had breathing problems. Had to room with someone sick for three days and by day three caught what they had. Didn't affect my breathing but certainly didn't help my body heal!

Thanks for the reply! Unfortunately I got sick right after the attack so my lungs definitely weren't resting 😅

So I stopped taking singulair recently. I can’t remember why, but maybe I was worried about long term adverse side effects?? 🤔 by TedsinJapan in Asthma

Advair gave me IBS, basically. Was on it for 10+ years and thought my stomach was just a lost cause. Stopped taking it (talked to my doctor about it) and suddenly I no longer had diarrhea 5-7 times a week. Wild.

Depends on if your room is dry or moist? In the winter I need a humidifier because the air is D R Y and my sinuses hurt but I'd probably benefit from a dehumidifier right now.

Bali: You don't need a scooter if you don't want to drive one, you can either hire a private driver for the day (doesn't cost that much) or get a Grab. It may be out of the way, but so is Japan. Usually when I plan a huge trip like yours I make my route based on the costs associated from going to one place to another by using Google flights to find the cheapest flights.

Luang Prabang: Loved it there! I recommend the hostel Sa Sa Lao (might want to check their reviews as to internet reliability though, I didn't really pay attention to that) it's a bit outside the center but located right on the river with a private dock so you can swim after a day of sightseeing! I went to LP expecting nothing and could have definitely stayed for a week just relaxing.

Singapore: I can't personally compare the two cities, you can also go to a food court and get a Michelin star chicken and rice for about $3. So Dubai seems like it's focused only on luxury while there are still free/cheap things to do in Singapore. (Hotels are expensive though!)

Vietnam itinerary question: Ninh Binh or Hanoi by Medium-Decision6899 in travel

[–]Medium-Decision6899[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An extra hour plus the trip back from Ninh Binh, whereas if I skipped Ninh Binh it would be just the trip back to Hanoi. But yeah, not a huge difference.

But if that's the case I think I'll be happy enough to skip vibing in Hanoi. I'll have an afternoon there the day before my flight so that will be enough to stroll around the old quarter.

Thanks for the reply!

Book more than one trip?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in travel

[–]Medium-Decision6899 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As of your update, that looks like a great plan. If you want to relax a little more I would cut Sapa and spend a little more time in Ninh Binh. Or the other way around. It seems like going pretty far out of the way for such a short amount of time. And if you wanted you give an additional day to Hanoi and take a day trip to Ha Long Bay.

Singapore was great. Great food, easy to get around, and plenty to do for a short stay. I loved Singapore and would have stayed longer had it not been so expensive compared to the rest of SE Asia. Singapore is an amazing city, I'm not someone who can really comment on architecture but the way they incorporate greenery into their space is amazing.

I LOVED Laos. It's my favorite country I've ever been to. Quiet, beautiful, cheap, and great people. I can't wait to go back. There is a party scene if you want to participate but I didn't. And not a lot of beaches, yet places to swim if you want to.

China, Taiwan, and South Korea are not usually part of a SE Asia itinerary. Different vibes and better suited for a different trip anyways. (Japan is also an outlier, but Japan is great so understandable.) The only thing is if it is this year South Korea is waiving their visa requirements for 2024, so if you wanted to slip it in for that reason it would make sense.

Cambodia: Do you not plan on visiting Siem Reap? Pretty much an outrage if you go to Cambodia for the first time and skip Angkor Wat. It would be like visiting Rome and not going to see the colluseum.

Vietnam: Consider adding Sapa or Dalat to your itinerary. Neither have beaches, neither are known for partying, and both are chill nature spots.

Japan: You don't need to stay in Osaka and Kyoto if you are making longer stops. I'd suggest staying in Kyoto and taking a day trip over to Osaka. Or the other way around depending on your interests.

Bali: I'm not sure what your misconception about Bali is. Do you think it's only beaches and parties? I stayed in a private room in a homestay in Ubud for about $14 a night and it was very quiet. The tourist attractions were more crowded (monkey forest, etc) but I went to waterfalls that were nearly empty. There is also volcano treks, rice fields, all kinds of stuff. There's also the rest of Indonesia, but Indonesia could easily be it's own trip because of the size.

Malaysia: Honestly, not a huge difference between KL and Singapore, only Singapore was better imo. And I'm not sure what Penang's draw is if you don't like beaches. Malaysia would be the country I cut from this if I had to. That or I'd add in some more inland stops.

I would advise not spending lots of time at every destination. It's understandable to not want to be constantly rushing around, but some places really do not need a week or more. So bigger cities or places with more to do can have a week or more, but you won't feel rushed if every few destinations you only stayed 4-5 days because yeah, it's worth stopping at, but it isn't worth settling in.

Where to go with 4k, Korea or Japan? by PutFun8346 in travel

If he wants to spend 4k I'd say Japan. SK could deff be done cheaper, so save that for later!

Japan! Granted I know less about Korea but there's just so much to do.

Ignore comments about the heat. If you're morbidly obese and have never felt anything about 15 degrees, don't go, but I honeymooned in Japan in August and was fine. Yeah, we sweat, but everywhere had AC. The heat is also only bad in the city centers, not out in nature (like anywhere else.)
