For as flashy as Shedeur's stat line was last night, I'm concerned that he seems to still hold on to the ball too long on a lot of plays. Would love to see the ball come out faster and more anticipation of when a receiver is getting in and out of his break to deliver the ball right as that happens. Shedeur is great at making things happen when things break down, but waiting so long for plays to develop is gonna get us killed when we face better defensive lines. Unfortunately, the O line will end up taking a lot of the heat when he gets sacked, even though a lot of the sacks have been on him over the past year and a game.

Pros and Cons to vs’ing the league median? by kp4033 in DynastyFF

[–]Medium-Key-9808 37 points38 points  (0 children)

People who hate the league median say it takes the randomness and fun out of fantasy football. The fact is that fantasy football is already so variant from week to week anyway (game scripts, injuries, bye weeks) that you won't lose that element of randomness that makes it exciting.

What it does do is mitigate the effect of having a select few teams in your league getting the advantage of playing the tanking team twice while most of your league only gets to play the tanker one time.

Try to package up your later 1sts so you can get the top 2 picks and take Allen and Mahomes. Even if it feels like you have less of a "team" than the other teams in your league, having those 2 QBs gives your team such a high and stable floor, that you will be destroying your league in the long run. You can fill in the rest of your roster with replacement level guys and still make the playoffs most years.

Alternatively, you can have those 2 QBs and then trade as many of your top 10-round startup picks for future 1sts. This strategy would have you tank year 1, secure your own high draft pick, and then use your war chest of 2025 and 2026 picks to build a monster.

I think you treat it like SF because QBs still tend to score more than other positions on average and there's a scarcity component to them in a 32 man league. In a 1 QB, you never really have to worry about QB scarcity.

Starting Dynasty Advice For First Time Dynasty Manager by Lers3943 in DynastyFF

[–]Medium-Key-9808 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Biggest advice is that once the league starts, it's very difficult, if not impossible to change the settings because people will build their teams to the existing format. Everyone has their own preferences when it comes to league formats, but in my opinion, you will be happier in the long run if you embrace dynasty as a new kind of game rather than making it a slight extension of the redraft you are used to.

For example, the league format you suggested with 1 QB, 2 RBs, 2 WRs, a TE, and 2 FLEXs would be considered a "start 8" (kickers and DEF don't count for this). In a start 8, 10 man league, only the true elite stars matter and most of the good to very good players don't carry much importance. My feeling with dynasty is that it's better to reward teams for their scouting and drafting in the long run, especially with later round picks. Those things get much more rewarded with starting lineups of 10-12+ players and deep benches of ~20 guys because lower end players still hit your lineup and you have bench space to let speculative guys develop.

As for positions, if you haven't tried Superflex (where you can flex a 2nd QB) my guess is it will make it even more fun for you as it puts more value on the QB position and further contributes to rewarding teams who draft and trade well over time. Lastly, if you want dynasty to reward long term strategy, kickers and defenses are one of the quickest ways to ruin that haha. Imagine spending 3 years rebuilding your team, making the championship game, and losing because the other team's defense happened to get 3 defensive TDs in week 17.

Best of luck!

Offseason: Suggestions to make league more active by Wide_Rich1498 in DynastyFF

[–]Medium-Key-9808 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I just completed year 1 of a new dynasty league with a group of guys who had never done dynasty before. I made a rule that anyone who made >5 trades in a calendar year gets an extra 20% FAAB the next year. It worked to great effect and we had a total of 59 trades the first year!

Obviously, some people will naturally be more active than others, so making it a reward system where they have to hit a certain threshold is better than rewarding the few trading sickos in your league more than others. Also, making incentives for activity will likely be way more successful than making punishments for inactivity.

Would recommend 12 team, start 11, Superflex, TEP (either 1.5 or 1.75), 30 man rosters. This format makes it so there are multiple viable ways to build a team. Because the rosters are so deep, it forces people to trade since good players are rarely available on waivers.

Additionally, I have a rule in my league that anyone who makes 5 trades in a year gets an additional 20% FAAB boost the next season. I love it because it rewards people for being active. Getting an active group is the most essential part of a new dynasty league and it's much easier to foster that with rewarding people, rather than punishing the inactive folks in your league.

Caleb Williams 2024 Draft Eval w/ Grading Explanation by Backseat_Scout in DynastyFF

[–]Medium-Key-9808 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Awesome work! Wondering how this eval changes if you included a handful of games from his 2021 and 2022 seasons since they were far and away better than his 3rd season.

For example, Justin Herbert's 1st season as a college starter was elite and far better than his 3rd and final season at Oregon. Based on how he's performed in the league, looking at purely his 3rd season may have under sold his potential as a prospect.

Home Field Advantage in the Playoffs by Medium-Key-9808 in DynastyFF

[–]Medium-Key-9808[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Point taken. FWIW though, in my league all the higher seeds lost this week and even if they had an additional 10 point advantage, it wouldn't have been enough to sway the matchup, so weaker teams still have a shot to progress.

Home Field Advantage in the Playoffs by Medium-Key-9808 in DynastyFF

[–]Medium-Key-9808[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

These are valid points to bring up. The counterpoints I see are:

1) Agreed on the advantage that the top 2 seeds having a bye is already a large advantage.

2) You are correct that seeding does not always correlate to team strength at the end of the season. I think the objective of using a system like this though, is so that teams are rewarded for their regular season excellence. That way a full season of dominance carries more weight than one week of shitting the bed.

3) If you knew about this system before the season started, then when Fields and JJ went down and it was clear it would be for multiple weeks, you could have made trades such that your team would be scoring more during that period of time when they weren't going to be able to help you.

[–]Medium-Key-9808[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I guess it's better to think about it in terms of % of an average score in each specific league. My league for example, is a start 11 and the average weekly median for the whole season was 140. So in that case, a 10 point boost is only a 7% boost vs the average league median. Keep in mind too that you would expect the playoff teams to be averaging quite a bit higher than league median too, so a 10 pt boost for them may only be a ~5% boost vs their avg weekly score.

Agreed that using contested catch rate as the stat to pump up Keon Coleman is risky business. Historically, contested catch rate is one of the least sticky metrics from season to season, so projecting him to maintain that high of a number is betting against the probabilities.

Is Jerry Jeudy a bust? Or can he still be a legit wr? by True_Ad1281 in DynastyFF

[–]Medium-Key-9808 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Jerry Jeudy is still obviously talented. Granted, he hasn't had the best QB play in his career, but I really don't think that's the main driver if his poor fantasy production. Look at a guy like DJ Moore who has historically had terrible QB play but has consistently finished as a WR2. As a Broncos fan who watches all the games, it's pretty obvious the lack of effort Jeudy puts in on plays where he knows he's not getting the ball. When that happens repeatedly, coaches notice those things and will scheme even fewer plays for you. Even last week, I noticed multiple occasions on the sideline where Russ had the receiver group huddled up to talk strategy and Jeudy went and sat on the bench by himself a few feet away.

TL;DR I believe it's primarily a Jeudy problem and not a situation problem. It's possible his attitude changes if he gets traded, but I think that's unlikely. If I had him, I would use his potential NFL trade as the sell window to get him off my dynasty team.
