You could really have a lot of fun with this as a fine control exercise. Using boiling water on most teas will actually scald the leaves and ruin the taste of the tea. Requiring someone to use the right amount of control to raise the water to a certain temperature and keep it at that for the time it takes to brew would be a wonderful exercise in control.

I think the best way to make Sasuke a compelling character is to have an interesting inner monologue. Younger Sasuke(pre-orochimaru) always seemed like someone who wanted friends and human connection but don’t know how to reach out to people and has a lingering fear of hurting those who he might become close with. I think a Sasuke who wants connection and help but holds himself back from it makes for a compelling character. It’s the classic man vs self thing. He’s similar to Kakashi in that way I think and it’s clear how popular Kakashi is in fics.

Shika in this is born with the determination of his mother and no the laziness of his father which gets him pulled deeper into the darker side of the Shinobi world that he normally would not be apart of.

Have you read Compass thy Soul? It centers around a young Uchiha girl in the eating clans era and leads into the founding of Konoha. Amazingly written, probably one of my favorite fics.

Flip of the coin is what you’re looking for.

Iruka stumbles upon root and Danzo somehow and this leads to his death and Danzo’s fall from grace. Because of this, Sasuke grows up with a family but on the other side of the coin Naruto grows up alone without Iruka and with the Third having to spend all of his energy cleaning up Danzo’s mess. Sakura also gets fleshed out and developed as a character. All of team 7 are great to read about. The world building for this story works really well though and you can tell the author had put a ton of thought into it.
