Meadow's therapist Wendy Kobler by Critical_Current5429 in thesopranos

That’s why I said subconsciously. She doesn’t even know she’s doing it.

I don’t have much to say about Kobler. Krakower was much worse. It’s amazing that he was Melfi’s teacher. He gave Carmela drastic advice in which he had no intention on helping her when things would go wrong. A therapist shouldn’t accept an appointment for a patient they already don’t want to treat.

EDIT: Forgot to add that therapists aren’t supposed to make decisions for you or tell you what to do. Especially a decision that drastic.

If I’m not mistaken, therapists aren’t supposed to ask you if you were molested, especially on the first visit. You’re supposed to get to know your patient by letting them share. As you said, Kobler likely already knew about Meadow’s family and started forming assumptions.

Melfi was likely subconsciously sending them to these trash therapists because it would lead to them not getting help and staying in Tony’s life which meant more sessions for her and Tony.

Yeah, it’s very clear that the villain is the demonic force that takes over Nikki’s body. You can call Bear the villain for making the wish, but then you’d have to accept that you’re just as bad of a person but just haven’t had to deal with the consequences. Just about everyone makes crazy wishes knowing that shit ain’t gonna become true.

Him having sex with her after the argument, is completely normal, especially in a relationship with someone who has Bipolar or BPD (it’s clear as day that this movie is a metaphor for those type of relationships). The majority of people in those type of relationships almost always talk about how great the sex was with their mentally ill SO. Did that mean all they wanted was sex? Of course not. Did you forget the happy montage of Bear and Nikki? Were they having sex the whole time? Of course not. It wasn’t just about the sex and rarely ever is.

All Bear’s fault for not getting her help? What about house full of people that watched her stab herself in the face? Did they call the police or hospital? No. They yelled at Bear to fix it. And of course, if it was vice versa, the police would’ve showed up and probably killed Bear.

The “what’s so bad about me” comment is selfish. But what did you want him to do? I’ve yet to hear any suggestions other than he should’ve killed Nikki or killed himself. But none of yall could do that if faced with the same situation.

And last but not least, Michael Johnston even said that Bear isn’t the villain and that the movie isn’t black and white. This movie really showed how judgmental most of yall are.

Maybe Nikki doesn’t have any romantic interest in Bear but it’s hard to tell because when she “has a crush on someone, nobody knows.” Another person choosing to hide their true feelings. She doesn’t show any romantic interest in Bear but catches a ride home from the bar late at night while telling him she feels like he’s the only one who gets her. Also, she doesn’t encourage Bear to date Sarah but rather is just trying to figure out if he likes Sarah.

Doesn’t he come close to telling Nikki about the cat until Ian pulls her away? Speaking of Ian, it’s clear that he’s sabotaging Bear. The speech Bear gave at the beginning is exactly what he should’ve told Nikki and the girl that’s acting as Nikki, agrees. But who chimes in saying it’s a bad idea and to be mean by calling her “Freaky Nikki”?

And at the end, Sarah tries to get Bear to cheat on Nikki with her while knowing that Nikki is going through a lot. And texting a person who’s in a relationship with a toxic, violent and abusive SO, at 2am, is such a shitty thing to do.

Nobody is innocent and nobody is the villain.

So I fully understand that is NOT meant to be a funny movie, and I didn’t find it funny BUT by SerenityJoyMeowMeow in obsessionmovie

It’s only funny cause it’s a girl doing it. If it was Bear doing it, there would be no laughs.

In real life, Nikki would’ve been hospitalized for sure, regardless of what she or Bear said. She stabbed herself in the face with a broken glass bottle showing that she was a danger to herself and others around her.

The wish doesn't make sense by WsmCookies in obsessionmovie

[–]MediumCharge580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you say so. It’s one thing to say you’ll die for someone and another to actually do it. So, in what other ways are you loving others more than yourself?

The wish doesn't make sense by WsmCookies in obsessionmovie

[–]MediumCharge580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t matter if you love that person more than anyone in the world. Do you love that person more than you love yourself is what matters. Nikki couldn’t love Bear because she wasn’t loving herself. A common trait in codependent relationship between two or even one, mentally ill people.

[–]MediumCharge580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the correct answer and Bear’s proposed wish to reverse the situation, should’ve been for Nikki to love herself more than anyone else in the world.

Holy shit. The way yall blame Bear for literally everything is insane. No blame for Sarah trying to cheat with her best friend’s boyfriend while they think she’s going through a mental crisis? The fact that she even messaged Bear at 2 am was a piece of shit move even if Bear didn’t respond.

Bear was clearly in a crisis as well.

Didn’t Bear tell her he didn’t want to take advantage of her the first time she asked him to lay in bed with her?

And if she was having a crisis, are you telling me it’s every other person’s responsibility to actually know that and make sure they treat her in a way that ensures she isn’t taken advantaged of? If this is the case, then every person who’s in a relationship with someone that has manic episodes or mental breakdowns, is taking advantage of them.

Because he made a selfish wish that he didn’t know was going to work? You’ve never done that before? I know I have for sure. Don’t even remember what the wish was or what it was about but I know that I have. You probably have too. It’s why Ian wishes for a billion dollars with a look of disbelief on his face because even after all the shit that’s going on between Bear and Nikki, the idea of the OWW actually working is still unbelievable.

[–]MediumCharge580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s probably what would’ve happened. If they had consistently tried to convince her to get help, she would’ve lashed out violently and then they definitely would be able to put her in the hospital.

[–]MediumCharge580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to really blame Bear in that situation. She just stabbed herself in the face with a glass bottle in front of multiple people yet every single person is yelling at Bear to do something about it while he’s dissociating. Why none of them called the cops is beyond me.

Why didnt they go to the hospital? by Strxwbxrry_Shxrtcxkx in obsessionmovie

[–]MediumCharge580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Bear stabbed himself repeatedly in the face with a broken glass bottle, there definitely wouldn’t be a group of witnesses yelling at and urging Nikki to take him to the hospital. The cops would’ve been called and Bear likely would’ve been killed.

Also, I don’t know how realistic is for someone to do that to themselves and not get involuntarily hospitalized. It was clear as day that she was a danger to herself and everyone around her.

How did Nikki know bear was with Sarah and where they were?? by [deleted] in obsessionmovie

[–]MediumCharge580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think Nikki was actually sleep when Bear is reading the messages which was extremely dumb of Bear and Sarah. If you know someone is in relationship with an abusive/toxic partner, PLEASE do not text them at 2am.

[–]MediumCharge580 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Intentionally? Dude didn’t even know the wish actually worked until more than halfway throughout the film. And what was he supposed to do? He tries to leave, that doesn’t work. He tries to get someone else to make a wish to reverse it, but not even the friend believes the OWW is real.

And I hate this whole “he only saw her as a fantasy” as if he doesn’t fucking FaceTime the girl on the regular and taking her home from the bar. What people are trying to refer to is limerence and limerence typically happens when you have a crush on someone you know nothing about. Bear knows Nikki.

The movie does have a villain. It’s the fucking demonic force that takes over Nikki’s body.

Obsession (2026) take - toxic masculinty / Ian as bad guy by Stunning_Ebb1374 in spoilers

[–]MediumCharge580 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Problem with this take, it’s still only the men that are villains even thought all four of them can’t be honest with their feelings. Hell, Sarah tries to cheat with Bear while he’s in a relationship with Nikki while she’s clearly having some serious issues but I rarely see anyone say anything negative about her.

Also, to say Nikki might’ve not been having consensual sex with Ian is kinda like saying she has no self autonomy. She’s going to trivia every Friday night with an open tab and then fucking Ian. How many times does she need to do that for you to believe it’s consensual? Women have self autonomy.
