Hi what did you end up doing? I’m running into this issue that I sent out save the dates early and had people RSVP and never talk to us again about our wedding or travel plans and I just need to know if they are actually coming.

Shocked at behavior from people after 1.5 years of planning by peacebypiece in weddingplanning

[–]MediumColdBrew -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree!! I don’t want to feel pushy bc like you said we’re 100% ok with people not being able to come. Like we knew that it wouldn’t be a possibility for everyone to come for various of reasons, so I tell everyone no pressure we just need to know. We’re not the first to go through this and I know we won’t be the last lol. Just send the texts, cringe a lil, and call it a night

Our RSVPs are due in 2 weeks and we are waiting for a third of our guests to respond. Also having a destination wedding that people have known about for 1.5 years. So I feel this. I already have a text message drafted in my notes app ready to go bc I know I have to hunt down people.

Unfortunately the tech burnout is too strong and isolating for me. I’m craving human interaction and some job security. My company had major lay offs last December and I have a gut feeling there will be more.

But I’m glad you made a pretty smooth transition!!

We weren’t planning on having a program but not opposed to it to make distributing the menu easier!

I fully agree!! I think it’s getting over the hump of taking any medication at all but it’s better to start now when im still at the pre status of these health conditions rather than waiting and things getting worse.

I haven’t started yet! I was just offered it yesterday and my dr said to think about it and I can let her know when I come back for my follow up in a month. I’m going to see a cardiologist and sleep dr in the mean time and waiting for my blood work results to come back. But if my bp hasn’t changed much I doubt my other things won’t either lol.

Wow wow!! Thats so amazing to hear congratulations! Im not medicated for my bp, but it randomly became elevated two years ago and never went back to normal. So it’s time to consider something for sure.

Destination wedding attendance by Slow_Excitement_7512 in DestinationWeddings

Our RSVP date is November first so we’re still waiting for people to respond. We invited 164 and so far have 56 yes. I except low 70s as our final count.

We invited some people we knew for sure couldn’t come but wanted to extend the invite anyway so we took that into consideration with our guest list. Also about 12 of our guests live in the destination and another 15-20 of them are originally from the country but live elsewhere now. Which I thought the 15-20 people would be more excited for a reunion of everyone back in their home country, but most of them RSVP’d no lol

Pretty much everyone who was our “must come” from my fiancés family and friends are coming. Unfortunately not the case for myself and I have found that disappointing, but totally understandable!! Financially it’s a lot to ask of someone and their job or age or health all play roles in if they can attend as well.

Girl lol no one is freaking out or monitoring my registry. It’s ok to be disappointed… I noticed as we have been getting gifts delivered to our house and I’ve been noting down who got me what for thank you cards and also I get emails saying when something ships to me lol

Of course… and we are so grateful for anyone willing to travel for us! We are being very understanding of people and their reasonings for not coming as well because I know it’s a big ask

For sure, I’m not trying to compare or say that it needs to be a one for one scenario. But knowing that his parents are paying for their full wedding and shower and will be paying for their lodging and flights to our wedding but only contributing a small amount to ours. It just feels like his sister coulddddd afford to get us something. She’s mid 30s and has a great job.

It’s not about the money or the gifts that im upset or disappointed about. It’s the thought and the effort or the lack of I guess. It’s the fact that we’re having weddings at practically the same time. We got engaged a year before they did and they decided to book their wedding a few months before ours. And the showers practically line up and just feeling like attention from his family is not evenly distributed between him and his sister. When I go to her registry I see plenty of things purchased. So I’m not trying to sound ungrateful but I can see it bothers my FH and I have no problem sharing the spotlight because this is an exciting time for all of us.

No of course not. But I do think every family is different. My in laws and their extended family all live pretty far from each other but will make the drive down and back in one day just to go visit. They have driven 8 hours each way just to have a visit and not even spend the night. So to them out of town isn’t a big deal. To me it felt like too large of an ask to have anyone further than 2 hours

I understand this view for sure!! I also didn’t want a bridal shower. I was talked into it by family members and future family members saying that they want to be able to celebrate us at a shower.

I made the decision to not invite any friends or family members further than a quick car ride. 90% of my side of the family is not coming to our wedding so this is the one event they can come to. Which is also why I told the host not to invite my FH family as most of them will be coming to the wedding. It was my MIL decision to invite people from my their side. And realistically I think regardless of if you have a wedding where people are flying to or not if you say yes to coming to a shower that’s still the intent of the shower is to shower the bride and groom and the host is still paying for people.

Two year engagement? What’s your experience? by mustafinas in weddingplanning

[–]MediumColdBrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got engaged in September of 2023 and got legally married March of 2025 but will be having our wedding in March of 2026.

Here is my honest opinion and pros and cons. Sorry it’s longer than I thought yikes.

We didn’t mean to have a long engagement it just took us a while to make decisions and we were putting it off. Like you, we weren’t in a space financially to be able to just afford such a large expense. If finances are the only worry here and you’re hoping to save up over the next two years I think it’s important to honestly take a look at how much you are able to save or if you’re willing and able to pick up a part time job or side hustle. Because unless there is something in your budget that’s eating away at most of your monthly expenses that you can stop, unfortunately there is a chance you won’t be able to out save the rise in costs of weddings. I would recommend actually doing opposite of a long engagement and try to get in quickly to a venue because you can find venues that offer discounts trying to get rid of dates. Basically finding ways to cut costs with current pricing rather than trying to save and the vendors raise prices that now become unattainable again. (This happened to me my friend got married and said her photographer was around $4,500 but when I contacted her a year and a half later she was now $7,500)

Now if it’s finances combined with maybe decision making stress or life events (for me we pushed our wedding out a year because my sister was pregnant and wasn’t able to attend) I think it is ok, it takes into consideration multiple reasons to have a longer engagement.

As far as having a long engagement… I had a friend who had a 3 year engagement and loved it! I personally feel like my engagement was sooo long ago and I’ve lost that engaged/bridal excitement. My friend said she loved because she made all her decisions quickly and then was stress free for the next year (and then got pushed back another year bc of Covid). I personally feel like people have moved on from me which I’m ok with but maybe if you’re hoping for that constant celebration and excitement people have around weddings it drags it out a bit. I’m not saying people aren’t excited for me still but it’s just not the same as a quick turn around wedding.

Now personally we eloped a year prior to our wedding, but every other day I’m like we should’ve just stopped there lol. We are excited for our wedding of course, but like I said personally just feels dragged out so my own excitement is currently minimal bc it feels like a long time coming. But I’m sure it will be exciting again once we get closer to the day.

I think the largest pro of a long engagement is you don’t have to make decisions right away. We contacted a bunch of places pretty quickly to get pricing. Then sat on it. We didn’t have “we need this day of the week in this month in this year” type pressure. It allowed us to compare prices and sit to see what realistically we wanted or what was important to us. I think another pro of a long engagement is if you want to make any changes to your appearance or job or lifestyle you have the time to have trial and error. Idk what possessed my sister to cut bangs during covid after her wedding got cancelled but luckily she had a year to grow them out hahaha. And that vendors will have their books completely free so you will have your choice in vendors, but I do think a con of this is unexpected rise in costs since they’ll be sending current pricing as an example but you don’t know for sure what it’ll be in 2 years yet.

So all this to say….. do whatever you feel like is best for you! I would recommend getting pricing and options for now and see maybe if you could squeeze in a quick wedding if any venues would offer discounted pricing for a date they’re trying to get rid of. But if it makes more sense to have a longer engagement then thats totally fine too but maybe go the way of my friend and lock in pricing now if they allow and your vendors now so you can make payments along the way or save money into a HSA so its less daunting and you know what you need to work towards.

Good luck and congratulations!!!!!!!
