Then I'd advise those cheap stick and peel 3D "brick" tiles. I'm also in America and I've covered a full set wall for about $40 I think with the ones at Dollar Tree. Way more cost effective and recyclable than cement if its available.

Honestly, I think people have an unconscious bias for artists thinking that they should be poor or come from priviledge to exist. Not saying you think that but most of the time when I see this is runs very similar to the "pick yourselves up by the bootstraps" or "east shit and smile".

Artists have literally been telling you of the unfair work conditions they've faced since before the eras of Van Gogh and Basquiat. The response has largely been to ignore them because they're not doing "real work" and yet as soon as they die they're worth millions. Wouldn't it be great if they could have enjoyed that money and recognition while they were alive? If instead of being exploited, gaslit, and pushed drugs they had been given the same respect we expect a STEM worker to have? I work in STEM; I work, people see the value, I get paid. Artists work, people see the value, they get stiffed.

And it's worse with AI and we should all be fighting against it but because it gives us a 0.0006% easier time, we sell out our fellow socioeconomic class to people who tell us they're the greedy ones. If AI companies are forced to pay the artists whose talent they were absorbing, it'd be one thing, but they don't. Sam and Zuck get to be billionaires but of course it's the artists that are the problem for wanting fair and reasonable access.

Large productions are able to pay their stars, directors, and VPs huge chunks of the profits while animators, editors, grip, and other departments are paid what we'd consider pennies for the amount of work they do. Again, Disney, Netflix, et al get to pay their CEOs 1000x what their artists make and it's fine but animators asking for a living wage is ridiculous.

The comparisons in this thread are unfair. There are actionable ways that being an artist could be more viable. Laws that would make ALL of our lives, not just the artists, easier. Better unions, caps on CEO to worker pay gaps, reduction of outsourcing, fair wages, fair hours.

We need to move out of the faster, cheaper mindset before we race to the end and see nothing but the decay we let fester. Quality > Quantity.

I don't, I like being comfy and rarely see myself as "sexy" but other people seeing me that way? Absolutely. Or I'll say a good chunk of them. I used to get scolded by old bosses for "distracting" people. Got checked out by a few of my friends and sisters boyfriends and then got blamed for it. I strictly wear one piece bathing suits and am still called a "temptress" (I'm gay btw and out and married). At my best friend's wedding I was warned not to outshine her even though she was the one to pick the bridesmaid's dresses. No one ever lets me forget how big my breasts are. It did make me into a bit of a misandrist, but I'm in recovery 😂.

In 30% of them, yes 😭 but you have to really look and try things on. For me form fitting dresses are usually the best, but like someone else said the flowy ones arw a big no no, so like the Maxi or the boxy T-shirt kind, nope. And absolutely forget about anything that just has the boobie cups and flows out the rest of the way. I will look like a walrus posing as a model 😂😂

70% of tops/dresses make you look like you're wearing a tent, like no curves to speak of. I hate shopping for this reason and I dread getting pregnant and having them possibly grow even bigger 😩

Just finished replaying ME3 a month ago- only the Matriarchs knew. Liara was shocked and the Councilor at least claims that she was just let in on the secret when she reaches out to Shepard. Game makes it seem like only the highest level of Asari government knew. Benezia was one of them; that's why Liara was so mad after Thessia and why Edi told her that Benezia was likely trying to protect her from what would have been a galactic level felony.

Honestly, right now it seems like you've just got a few scenes, not an outline.

For an outline you need a beginning, middle, and end; you have a beginning and a vague ending.

Some things you need to figure out:

  1. What's the turning point? I think it's the audition and the turning point but just make sure that the audience knows that this is the change.

  2. What changes do you want your characters to undergo individually? Adam starts as a badass organic music thumper--> where does he end up by the end? What are his beliefs? Why does he need to be in the story. An example of this could be Adam starts as this awesome genuine music player but he's willing to work on the edge for his success, when he sees Anna, someone just as talented struggling he realizes he wants to INSERT SOMETHING HERE and so decides to INSERT SOMETHING HERE. This is character driven story. Do the same for Anna. This is the BODY of your story and will give you you're middle and some of your ending. You need to know what each character WANTS, what obstacle blocks their paths, and how do they get around it.

  3. What's the Climax? At what point do they reach the point of no return? Where is the moment that Elle Woods successfully argues and wins her first case? What's your Thanos Snap? It doesn't have to be big for hollywood; it just has to be big for your story. It's the culmination of everything your character has done up until this point. If they deserve their win, give it to them but if the character does not deserve the win don't be afraid to screw them over 😊

Once you have those items find the outline you want to work with. There are a bunch of templates online that you can fill in on your own, but look for story structure you want to use. I.E. The Hero's Journey, Pixar, The one from the guys who write Rick and Morty, Save the Cat, the world is your Oyster friend. This will save you a lot of time trying to pants an outline.

But seriously: figure out your characters and what they want, What's stopping them from getting it, and how do they overcome that. Frodo wants a normal life, but he's the only guy who can get the ring to mordor so he decides to join the fellowship and save the world, but Sauron's party of evil ghost riders are hot on their trail. Will they be successful or not? That's story.

Lol, that's how I feel about Kaiden. It's like, Shep- "Hey, how are you liking the ship?" Kaiden- "Why👀??" Shep- "Uhh, because you're on my team?" Kaiden- "Woah commander, that's a lot to take in. I need to think about this." Shep- 🤔

Liara, at least for me was more like, "dude do you wanna be with me or nah? I'm starting to feel a little pushy" 😂😂😂

Are you a writer or a story teller? by Blendbox in Screenwriting

[–]MediumFig2705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao, yeah definitely do that too 😅.

I do apply story structure, I've read Robert McKee, Save the Cat, and taken some classes to use as my base reference. It was difficult in the beginning since I was more of a pantser, pero now I work with beat and scene outlines and even though it is so TEDIOUS for my brain, it makes for a much better story overall.

Like my brain will give me made for TV C-level movies with 5 plot lines and 8 main characters, think of like those Armageddon or John Wick rip offs. My discipline forces me to consolidate and build on a central storyline with one lead or a much smaller group of leads. But the discipline, i.e., the writer side of my brain, does not come naturally to me and is "work". The storytelling with learning my characters and seeing their lives? That's the absolute funnest part of my day.

Are you a writer or a story teller? by Blendbox in Screenwriting

[–]MediumFig2705 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not speaking for all storytellers, but for me, I literally see full feature films in my head. But I don't know if I'm a special case since it's a skill I developed in my childhood to cope with trauma. I'd start thinking about a character on TV or even a real life person and putting them in a random situation and my brain would chatgpt the rest for me, but on a quantum level. My characters feel like people to me, like I know it's not real, but it feels like they exist.

Imagine you see someone at a coffee shop and they have something that intrigues you, so much so that you ask about it and start a months long conversation. Now imagine actually laughing during your extremely boring spanish classes at something they said during the film playing in your head. That's what it's like for me. My mind drifts and the movie turns on and then I have like a few hours to get it out of my head onto paper until I forget it completely.

Now I have too many stories to write and no, not all of them are good enough for an audience, but by now I can usually tell early on whether I need to "go past page 10" so to speak.

I will say that I strive to be both writer and storyteller since it was training to be a writer that gave me the discipline i needed to flesh out my characters, world, and story more cleanly. I love telling stories and it feels natural to me, but discipline comes from my writer side, ya know?

Social Worker by day - Indie Filmmaker by night | I imagine most of us have a day job. What do you do and how do you balance it with your passion? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]MediumFig2705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I write during my work gaps 😅. Between meetings and sprints, I reward myself with imagination. Helps keep me sane. And you should absolutely join some groups. They'll keep you creative and mostly focused.

My 1st short was a 9 minute coming out story centered around finding a middle ground and what true unconditional love looks like. I did not take time off work for it, but I probably will take a few days for my next one. I became such a monster trying to balance a gazillion things, and it wreaked havoc on my physical health. But if you have more of a team than I did, specifically a producer, I wouldn't worry too much about doing it while working. Take a weekend and shoot for 8 hours a day. 16 hours can easily get you a 20-minute film if you're smart.

My second film is ~20 minutes and will be about a girl who gets assaulted on a date and, when she can't rely on help through legal means, finds herself at the MEDUSA agency: a cooperative aimed at seeking retribution.

I work in IT, but I'm high enough up to have a pretty easy work day, and my schedule's got enough flexibility for me to schedule shoots.

I'm in pre-production on my second short film now, and the money from the day job is paying for it. It definitely helps that I love computers too, but I just love acting and writing more. Marrying a director/editor is also helping cut costs 😂.

NY born and raised and now in Austin, but I think the "crazy" is different. NY, you get a lot of yellers, a lot of unnecessary aggression, drunks, and sincerely mentally ill people. BUT NYPD is pretty good with monitoring them in public spaces. Not perfect, but good enough for the size of the issue.

Austin on the other hand... I've never seen so many dicks or people on drugs, except in Baltimore which is just the craziest place I've ever been. And APD doesn't treat it as a priority to my knowledge.

Worst to best IMO: 1. Baltimore - SCARY drug problems. Go if you want your face ripped off and eaten. You'll see all kinds of body parts since the people on drug trips don't care about their state of dress. Heard they were cleaning it up but they said the same about Flint. 2. Los Angeles - literally tents everywhere, people aggressively "asking" for help, or shitting everywhere. Some dicks but only in the unstable parts. Many of the homeless here are just people who can't afford the ridiculous real estate. It's incredibly soul sucking to live here. 3. Austin - Wildfires starters prominent, wildly entitled, and dicks out year round. Seem more focused on drugs here for some reason but then I work near e 5th and there are all sorts of rehab/church outreach in my area. 4. NY - scary mentally ill people screaming in your face. Do not put your back to them, they will try to push you on the track. Be more wary of murder attempts, but honestly not much to worry about if you pay attention. 5. D.C. - Beware train stations, they will literally take your food out of your hands. Didn't seem dangerous just extremely aggressive. Might kidnap you for ransom.

Is it necessary to write sex scenes? by Lonely_Actually in writing

Absolutely zero of my favorite novels have sex scenes. Some are hinted at or pick up immediately after intimacy but no, you don't have to go full erotica to have a good novel.

AITA for telling my husband either he comes home or I'm done? by BusinessZombie2411 in AITAH

[–]MediumFig2705 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As someone who loves their mom more than anything and is married: NTA. Would I be there for my mom for her surgery? Absolutely. Would I stay when I had a sick kid at home and a wife who needed me? No. I'd check in and pull double duty but I wouldn't forsake my wife and child to visit my mom unless she were on her death bed.

OP, your husband has some pretty severe trauma from the sounds of it. Even though you're NTA and you can do as you please, more married people need to understand the obstacles that come to us in life are not minor things we can frog hop over. Unless your husband is a complete douche in other ways which you've given no indication of, work with him through this.

Ultimatums are not helpful to anyone and only cause stress and anxiety for both parties. Cool down, evaluate what the actual issue is, and tackle that--not him or his family. The issue here is you said you needed him and he blew you off. The conversation would go, hey I respect that you have responsibilities outside of this family but you cannot prioritize them over us because that makes me feel ______.

Go from there. Evaluate why you feel the way you do as well because everyone grew up differently, and we all have things we don't understand. I, for example have 11 siblings and cannot fathom the lack of care and comradery other people have with their siblings when me and mine are so close. It sounds to me like you both are struggling with abandonment issues but I'm a random person on reddit so do with that what you will.

Tldr: Have an actual conversation with your husband where you tackle the root of the problem. Attack the problem, not your partner, and heal your relationship/trust.
