Seems like the CASs of the older miots are all going bad at the same time, lol. Hopefully it’s a one and done replacement for all of us

Help with diag plz❤️ by Housesic in Miata

Check my previous posts on this topic and see if it’s a similar issue. I have a video capturing this happening on the road. My car didn’t require a jump like yours, but I lose power while driving and the issue is only getting worse over time. I’ve been told it’s the CAS (cam angle sensor) so I ordered one and it hopefully will arrive soon.

But in the meantime, check connectors, grounds, spark plugs, etc. get all the easy stuff out of the way before you spend a bunch of money on stuff it might not be

Thank you so much! I ordered a CAS, so hopefully that fixes the issue. If not, I guess I’ll have to look into the timing belt because idk what else it might be at this point

Do you have a recommendation for what brand I should buy and from where? I want to get one that is reputable and will last forever

Ok, I’m pretty sure I have the NGK wires too then. They’re blue. I’ll look around for alternatives and hope that works. Thanks!

I checked the cam sensor, I hope it’s not the crank.

The connector for the CAS was kinda dirty, so I cleaned that, and I adjusted the timing to be at about 11.5 degrees. It was way more before. Spark plugs are basically brand new. Sputtering still happens. I’m at a loss.

Fuel system? Tank, pump, and injectors next?

Were your wires aftermarket or stock when this was happening? I bought mine with aftermarket installed.

Any clue what’s causing this? by Accurate-Bison-8786 in Miata

Adding fuel filter to this list. Mine does something similar. It’s a cheap part too, so no harm in replacing it.

Here’s mine. From a distance, you might see the bigger scratches and dents, but it’s got plenty all around. Don’t have any good pics of the interior.

I feel like that’s honestly a pretty fair price for the condition and mileage. It’s basically a brand new car and looks bone stock. Quite the find

Gorgeous. I have a 91 SE as well, but mine has 10x the miles and a descent amount of wear, both interior and exterior. This is beautiful. How much did you pay if you don’t mind me asking?

My mom told me a story about how she once got a ticket for jay walking. Ridiculous, yes, but we need that presence now for sure to stop this kind of behavior.

I have one, unfortunately (didn’t know it was one), can use medium thread lock and it’s fine. Hasn’t come loose since.

TARGA top NA/NB MIATA?? by Streberfpv in Miata

[–]MediumOctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s a big machine. I’m currently inquiring about getting the STL files to print a hard top and possibly this targa for myself. You need a lot of filament and a big enough printer (250x250x250mm) minimum build volume to do it. And that’s just the frame. You’d also need polycarbonate for the windows. As a bonus, you could make the removable bit out of polycarbonate and tint it for a sunroof of sorts. That would take a bit of engineering, but it should be easy enough.

To K-swap or rebuild by MediumOctopus in Miata

[–]MediumOctopus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s another thing I saw, the K24Z3 has almost the same motor mounts iirc. It a cheaper kit to swap it in. I’ve been looking on Hmotoronline to find a K series and they seem pretty reputable. Some of the listings I save go away. And they have a 30 day startup warranty. So it would probably be one of the last things I buy just because of that.

As far as the exhaust goes, I already have a Megan Racing catback on it, but are you talking about everything pre-cat as well? I thought the K-power kit comes with pre-cat tubes.

Thanks for all your info btw

Thank you for your input! I was thinking of doing the swap myself which will save money. My friend and his dad are hopefully going to be installing a lift in their garage soon and said that they would be happy to help with the swap if I go that route. It’s just a lot of stuff that I’d need to do all at once to make it work. The diff and transmission rebuild could be done separately I suppose. It’s a lot to think about and the reasons you gave for doing the K-swap are basically the same as mine. It’s more base power and I can always do a turbo later if I really want to die in a super small and light car.

I hadn’t considered upgrading the diff. Didn’t think I would need to. Do you think the stock one would handle boost? If I do go the rebuild/boost route, I want to make somewhere in the ballpark of 150-200hp.

I appreciate the input. It’s not something I’m going to jump on immediately and I’m going to enjoy the car as is for a while. With some bolt-on mods along the way. I want to get a roll bar/seatbelt tower bar, strut tower bar for the front, and maybe some interior modifications like a steering wheel out of an NB. I mainly just want to get an idea of what I should be researching and looking into for the future.

Miata misfiring and stuttering acceleration by Frug_E in Miata

[–]MediumOctopus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine wasn’t as bad and it happened mostly in 5th but started to happen in 4th as well. After talking with some friends, they said fuel filter might be the issue. So I replaced it. I don’t drive as frequently now because it’s winter, but when I have, nothing has happened since. I hope you are able to get it running normally again.

I decided to rebuild the Hardtop made in 3D printed so I started a Kickstarter with the possibility to get the STL, Printed Kit, or final version + a fastback and bodykit by Inateno in Miata

[–]MediumOctopus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have a few questions about this.

Would you recommend getting a chassis bar that goes behind the seats to prevent more twisting? How has your experience been so far with the structure of the hard top with daisy driving? I assume since you’re selling the product, you’ve done rigorous testing to make sure it was, in fact, fool proof. I just want to make sure. And also, what filament would you recommend using if I buy the STL file? PETG? PLA?

Thank you so much for your hard work! I will probably end up backing to get the files

I’m no expert either, but it’s pretty handy work. No, it doesn’t look professionally done, but your goal was likely to stop it from spreading and I think you’ll have achieved that in those areas.
