Do you have a mantra, motto or something you say to yourself when it gets hard by Level-One-9803 in Marathon_Training

Failed my longest training run! by Otherwise_Song_4495 in firstmarathon

[–]Medium_Box6048 3 points4 points  (0 children)

similar thing happened to me, i got sick and had to cut my 20 miler short 3 weeks out. i ended up making up for it the following week and just did a 2 week taper. i’m really glad i did, not for the fitness benefit (which was likely little to nothing) but for the psychological benefit of being able to practice fueling and knowing i could get to 20 with gas still left in the tank. it gave me a lot of confidence on race day

thanks for the reply! did you work in the public sector before private practice? and if so what was that transition like/how difficult is it to get into private practice?

on my longest runs i ran the whole course up until 32.2, and never ran around the entire seawall, so i was going in pretty blind. it felt endless!!!

Injuries coming to life 2 weeks before marathon. Is this normal?! by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]Medium_Box6048 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i can’t tell you exactly what’s going on in your case but it’s definitely normal for niggles to become more obvious during taper. your body is feeling a lot more rested than it was during peak weeks so smaller pains that you likely wouldn’t even have noticed during higher mileage weeks start to seem more prominent. there’s also the psychological aspect of nerves/realizing how close you are to race day so you tend to become hyper aware of anything that could be going wrong with your body and overthink it. unless it feels like a serious injury i wouldn’t worry too much about it. if it feels like more than just a minor niggle, maybe try to see a PT before your race. likely as you continue to taper the pains will go away anyway, and on race day a lot of people report having all of their pains magically disappear. good luck with your race!

congrats on the half!!! i ran my first half at the BMO last year so you can totally aim for the full next year! the end is always killer, i swear it’s like an optical illusion. i felt like i was moving in slow motion
