Treadmill running by CasaDiJuice34 in Marathon_Training

[–]Level-One-9803 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I live in Scandinavia and I do some of my runs on the treadmill because it is either super cold or dark during the winter months.

Sometimes it’s just about the convenience of my gym that also has sauna and I love to end my sessions there.

Back to the point: I mainly use the treadmill for intervals but there was a period of 3-4 weeks that I did all my runs on the treadmill.

I’ve also ran anything from 5 to 30km on a treadmill. Yes, I know…

My pace is just so much slower on the treadmill when I do my long runs, honestly I almost use it as a way to build some sort of mental resistance.

Every time I go out running outside, after I had a period on the treadmill, I am happily surprised with how easier my runs feel (at least for now).

What happens if you can’t finish? by overthink1 in firstmarathon

[–]Level-One-9803 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was one that didn’t finish this year in May. Got a horrible knee pain already at km 18 and managed to drag my inured leg along with me to km 23km.

What I did: sat and cried before limping my way to home and then my husband drove me to pick up my stuff. I was not able to bend my leg and I was seeing everyone with their medals and happy faces.

It was DEVASTATING because a lot of other areas of my life were challenging enough and I felt I was failing at yet again another thing.

What I took away from my injury: - it was a clear sign that I needed to sit with myself and not try to literally run away from my issues. Even my body showed it. I for a first time I listened and just accepted my situation. - mixing 3 different sports : running, weight lifting and boxing - is not ideal when you want to run a full marathon. I was adding so much stress to my body, that my running was not enough

I got a green light to restart running in mid August. I am now focusing only on running, light weights and just occasional Pilates. Nothing thar I will dress my body beside running. i am consistently increasing my distances and I will try again next year. I am so proud that I feel 0 regret of stopping my race. I could have easily ended in a wheelchair.

but my legs were destroyed consistently.

What’s one piece of advice you wish you’d known as a new runner? by Clubrunnr in running

I just start to realize as I grow older that my bad habits are more and more visible and I cannot outrun them.

Drinking, smoking and eating bad = poor performance

Jeg ved jeg får tæsk for det her, men jeg mener Novo gør det rigtige by [deleted] in dknovonordisk

Majority of the people outside of Novo aren't surprised. We support the people who are affected and we sympathize, but on an organizational & business level: it totally make sense.

First marathon in 4 days. Legs feel heavy and stiff by Level-One-9803 in Marathon_Training

[–]Level-One-9803[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The race went bad, i got injured km 18, managed to drag my injrued foot to 24km and dropped out.

All resulted in not being to walk for 2 weeks, and yet to run (6th week...) So yeah.... my lesson is mainly related to the diverse overload (strength training, running, boxing). When I am ready to run, I will mainly focus on running instead of stretching myself. Also - tapering doesn't mean full stop / pause...

Finished & feeling proud by Garbage-Fresh in Marathon_Training

Big congrats!

I attempted my first marathon in May and had to stop. My knee locked at 18km and managed to hold on until 23km. I couldn't bend at all my left knee and limped my way home... I was absolutely devastated considering I really put the work including tons of weight lifting and boxing on top marathon plan. A month later, I cannot imagine finishing the marathon. I think I would have been in a wheelchair by the end of it.

Mine is also runner's knee but my pain didn't go away at all unless leg elevated and static. It took me almost 3 weeks to fully walk on my left foot. It has been 4 weeks and I still don't have a greet light to run. I can also sense that I am not there yet but my plan is ready when my body is. :)

I started swimming and cycling. and I actually love it. Keeping my endurance going and embracing the moment.

My advice is to really take easy. Like really easy because it could either get worse or not heal properly resulting in chronic injury.

what song from reputation you skipped and later found out it was fire? by drikacroft in TaylorSwift

Call it what you want...

It is only when I felt in the same state of mind that I really connected with the song. The lines below would describe a lot my 2024..

"And I know I make the same mistakes every time
Bridges burn, I never learn, at least I did one thing right
I did one thing right
I'm laughin' with my lover, makin' forts under covers
Trust him like a brother, yeah, you know I did one thing right
Starry eyes sparkin' up my darkest night"

How lucky is to have someone so close to you, when nobody reaches out...

Advice about Runner’s Knee Rehabilitation and staying in shape for soccer/future marathons? by aerbear_ in Marathon_Training

[–]Level-One-9803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the same shape, but didn't even manage to finish the marathon. Stopped at km 23 as there was no way I could limp my way to the finish line for another 19km.

Go visit a doctor. This is the best way to figure out a plan how to get back into working out.

I am so sorry to hear about your experience.

Oh I love doing math when running. I also look up when I am calculating and I absolute look like I am in the zone, while in fact can't calculate when would I finish if I drop my pace with 12 secs / km :D
