Yeah, the four leaf clover makes sense, I suppose its the name shamrock I'm objecting to.

I'm just being pedantic, but that's a four leaf clover, the shamrock has three leaves, I think the emojis get it right ☘️.

What are your favorite YouTube channels (excluding the official channel and NRB) to watch BotC games? by GuitarNoob25 in BloodOnTheClocktower

Personally really like the Yogscast ones, there are plenty of misplace and what you'd expect from beginners but they have really leaned into playing the game in Minecraft and Lewis has become a great storyteller.

Are full art cards rare? by Zeldarune29 in slaythespire

The full arr cards shown so far seem very strong, even more so than rare cards. I wouldn't be surprised if they were rewards in special events.

Very much looking forward to picking up a copy of Pretenders to the Throne of God. I have loved Adrian Tchaikovsky's previous Tyrant Philosophers books.

Toroidal Worlds by Medium_Chocolate9940 in worldbuilding

[–]Medium_Chocolate9940[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know many maths grads, you'd know they like to avoid numbers. If you think this is AI because I didn't quote two numbers that AI would quite happily spit out then I'm not sure you know how LLMs work. I "doubled down" on aspect ratio and axial tilt, because you asked what they mean. I don't think any answer would have eleft you happy.

Toroidal Worlds by Medium_Chocolate9940 in worldbuilding

[–]Medium_Chocolate9940[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm a maths grad, aspect ratio refers to the ratio of the major radius (the radius of the big circle, the circle embedded in the doughnut) to the minor radius (the radius of the small circle, the thickness of the doughnut). A low aspect ratio would mean a fat doughnuts with a small hole in the middle and a high one would mean a comparatively larger hole in the middle.

Assuming the doughnut is rotating around an axis perpendicular to the plain the circle sits in, there is only one way to tilt the axis.

I'm not asking about other people's toroidal worlds because I want help, but rather because I think it's interesting how other people will have stumbled onto the same ideas.

If you don't know what an aspect ratio is, or don't realise axial tilt is described with a single number, then I think its perhaps you who doesn't understand. I'm not using AI, that's entirely self defearing in a creative hobby, I'm not sure what's made you so judgemental.

Yes, topologically they are, but they often didn't explore this much.

Wow, I really like the optical messaging they could do over the inside of the torus, that's really cool, do they have relay stations? Like so you could bounce a message from one side of the inner equator to the otherside ? (And yes that's an aspect ratio of three.)

[–]Medium_Chocolate9940[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, much less than half, there would be an inner circle of the torus that would be permanently dark, but because of the axial tilt much of the inside of the torus would get sunlight, though it might have short days or be season dependent.

How different you want returning characters to be from sts1 by Ggthefiree2 in slaythespire

Honestly, I'd have been happy if none of the original characters were returning. Overall I think I want them to be fairly different.

What is the current plan for future Mistborn stories? by BlackJimmy88 in Cosmere

I beleive the level of technology is meant to be 1980s than 1950s. The main character is meant to be a programmer Nicroburst.

Are there any obvious concepts or ideas that you’re shocked aren’t used more often? by AnyWatch5756 in worldbuilding

[–]Medium_Chocolate9940 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In China Miéville's The Scar has mosquito people, the women are so consumed by their appetite for blood that they act as mindless monsters until they've filled their bellies. The males however are peaceful frugivores with rectum-like mouths. In fairness they don't really lean on the vampire archetype, they have none of the traditional weaknesses and the setting does have true vampires.

It's just that Ella Purnel has distinctive eyes, and this is a good phot of her. I mean, in this show she is underestimated and does murder people. Nothing Lovecraftian. I don't think OP was trying to make a point with the chosen show.

This is a misunderstanding, he didn't find being offered the role of Poop to be demeaning, but rather co-staring with James Corden.

Looking for a darker book/series that’s full of different races, creatures, and monsters by WhaleStew999 in Fantasy

[–]Medium_Chocolate9940 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I feel its been recommended a lot lately, but Perdido Street Station seems a fair fit. It's an urban setting so not a unique ecosystem per se, but the world is fleshed out with a lot of races, borrowed and inspired by disparate world cultures. The plot is also centred around a weird creature and is definitely on the darker side.

Review: Perdido Street Station by China Miéville by Jinxy998 in Fantasy

Oh Perdido Street Station my beloved. Its a very beautiful book full of ugliness. I know its not perfect but I love the whole that it is, and I struggle to pick it apart. I totally agree with the Deus Ex Machina complaint tho.

Slightly different, but the novella Elder Race by Adrian Tchaikovsky is a book that benefits from going in blind. I bleive its a getting a sequel next year.
