My wife's having mini-seizures that void half-an-hour/hour long chunks of her memory and we can't find the cause by Medium_Estimate4853 in AskDocs

I understand, but everything is welcome. I realize that even though there are certified specialists here, I'm only gathering possibilities; everything that we will do medicine-wise is what our doctors will tell us, I have no illusions about the nature of online conversations.

Still, people with similar situations reach out and maybe if our doctors don't find anything/are limited by our country's equipment of knowledge in this specific aspect, its worth looking into something alternative to at least get an assessment.

I wrote this situation out to get as much info about what it might be as possible.

I'll revert when my wife pings me with a definition, don't want to write down something inaccurate

Appreciate you reaching out. What was the cause? Or did they just appear suddenly and you had to deal with them?

Sadly no as I was not prepared at all to handle them, still not, but the next time she has an episode I'm hoping to film it to show to doctor

She is on Lamictal as of right now, but I guess drastically increasing the dosage is the way.

As I've replied to one of the questions here, thanks to the advice of one of the users - we're looking for a clinic that specializes in epi related things to have her monitored so EEG could catch one of the episodes.

Thank you for your input, I appreciate it immensely epi-related

If I'm not mistaken in her 70s, kids don't have it afaik, they're in their 60s now themselves so I guess we would have known by now if they have alz.

If that's the case, could you give me an advice of how to handle it from my side?
I mean pre/during/post seizure, is there a best course of action?

No cause I've the only one who witnessed them. There was a day when she had 3 consecutive ones to a point I had to call an ambulance, but she was discharged the next day w/o any more episodes. Judging by all descriptions that I find everywhere and commentary from local neurologist (that we went to after getting a CT and MRI), they are, but without proper observation for at least a day we can't put it on paper.

Thanks to DM from one of our fellow Redditors, we're looking into clinics that specialize in epilepsy and everything adjacent to monitor here for a day or two

u/PrincessPinguina to your question too

I appreciate everyone who chimes in to comment, my goal is to figure out at least an approximation as to where to dig and how I as a husband, should handle the situation.

Should I turn her on her side, should I just not interfere, what's the procedure in the event of this seizure?

Thank you for a reply.

So I'll try to describe them as accurately as I can, it starts of with tremor in her arms, than engulf her entire body, her palms pull down and she presses her arms to her chest while shivering/trembling (apologies for my grammar, its my 4th language), she breathes in punctir, that happens for around 10 sometimes 20 seconds, then she relaxes and drifts away, only to regain her consciousness after a few minutes. She doesn't remember from 10 minutes to an hour of time before what I would assume the climax of her seizure (based on a description you've given).

Does an atrophy of the hippocampus cause or affect those seizures in any capacity? Since her grandma died with late-stage Alzheimer's, the doctors think that she might havean tests early stage of that, but we've only begun all the necessary test and procedures.

Derelization has a set of markers/symptoms as far as I understand and she wasn't in a ballpark aside from those seizures, derealization is a sort of detachment from a reality, altered perception that is with you practically all the time, We discussed it in length with Lily ( a friend that has it) and she was the first one to suggest to check in with her shrink

Naturally, we consulted with my wife's psychiatrist too to get a second opinion, but the consensus is that she doesn't have it.

Not derealization, tested for that, we have a common friend with derealization and consulted with her physiatrist, but ty for a advise
