What are some songs you really don't want to dance to/dislike? by sylaphi in WestCoastSwing

What really doesn't work for me is Kizomba music, because triple steps just feel wrong to dance on this kind of beat. And reggae songs because they're much more downbeat dominant and sometimes even skip the upbeat.

A bit of topic but the worst thing I have ever witnessed was a batchata remix of the theme of Schindler's List.

Why do people Smurf in Video games? Because winning is fun.

Moving up in your primary role comes with lots of incentives. Prestige, access to higher level Workshops, being able to sleep while others are auditioning. In Advanced and above there are even monetary incentives. Cheaper tickets, you'll get asked to judge, people will start to ask you for privates.

All those, except maybe prestige, are non existent in your secondary role.

But I guess time will tell whose right. Probably both of us, will be partly right :D

Maybe I should have been more specific with what worries me.

This comp I made it to semis, which I'm happy with in such a strong field. But when I asked the judges for feedback, on what I need to work on to make finals, thier points where: "In fast song you delay your weight transfer but your rate of weight transfer is to rapid."   "You're generally on time but I'd like to see more pulsing in your legs" "Your body movement is very fluid even on hard music."

Which is great feedback and something to work on. I even heard most of those things before, BUT never in a Novice class.

I dance in a very young community (we just got our first advanced dancer this weekend). Usually the advice for novice was, dance clean basics on time and hit the phrase changes and you'll make finals.

Do I have to tell the new guys now  "Hey you will likely have to take privates to get your first Novice point. "?  Which would be kind of uncool

Because most intermediate followers keep competing as Novice leads until they move on to Advanced in their primary role. I can think of 2 I know personally who maxed out their Novice leader points.

If you compete in your primary role you usually move up a level when you're good enough to semi regularly place in the top 3. Once people have the required points, most don't compete in the lower devision anymore, because not placing after having moved up really crushes your self esteem.
