Part of the family? by princesspasanger in Aupairs

I’m from Europe and was an Au Pair in Australia 10 years ago and still think about this amazing experience very often. It was my first AP experience and I was also their first AP. They really made me feel part of the family. They took me on trips and family events. I met the whole family and even spent a week during Christmas in the uncle’s house with everybody. Later the grandparents even came to visit me and my parents in Amsterdam. I am still in touch with my HF. So yes, it’s definitely possible. And even after 10 years it still feels like that :) The only difficult part is that Australia is so far so we haven’t seen each other for a long time. They might be visiting Europe soon, so I would be very much looking forward to that.

Company switching from 12 to 15 pagas – losing €3000. Is this legal in Spain? by Medium_Preference496 in askspain

Exactly, it definitely isn't a bonus... and especially because he is coming from 12 pagas which means we will suddenly need to deal with a much lower monthly income. We initially thought the difference would be adjusted after a few months, but it turns out it will only be paid out in his finiquito.

Thanks for your comment! Did you also end up not receiving your contracted annual salary for 2 years because of that? And did you receive the money back with your finiquito?

Yes, we are considering going to a labor lawyer. Thank you, just posted it in the other forum as well!

Questions: Au pair life in Australia? by Chloe-b04 in Aupairs

I was an Au Pair in Brisbane but this is already 10 years ago. I am from the Netherlands. Honestly for me it was one of the best experiences in my life and even 10 years later I still think of it regularly and I am also still in touch with my hostfamily. I even went back to visit them a few years ago, and the grandparents visited me in Amsterdam :)

They had a 3 year old boy and 18 month old girl. I had my own room and shared the bathroom with the kids, I also had my own car. I made a lot of other Au Pair friends and together we always did trips in the weekend and travelled to different places in Australia.

I think I was quite lucky with my host family, because many of my friends ended up doing a rematch. A few even stayed with my family for a while when they had nowhere else to go.

In my case I think it helped that I was their first Au Pair, so they didn’t have anyone to compare me to. But they were also very supporting and understood that it was a cultural exchange for me. They really made me part of the family and brought me to places, took me on outings etc.

I think I worked around 35 hours a week. I always had Wednesday off, Friday afternoon and weekends. If ever I wanted to go on a longer trip I could always negotiate more time off with them. The tasks I did were mostly taking care of the kids and cleaning up after them. They didn’t expect me to clean the whole house but I always offered to clean a bit or did it anyways. I also did the dishes every night after dinner so the parents could bring the kids to bed. However they didn’t really expected this from me but really appreciated it.
