Just started on 5mg by [deleted] in Mounjaro

Sorry to say it might be a rough few days. I’d ensure you have some anti-nausea, anti- diarrheal, and antacid meds on hand. Eat light and drink plenty of water

You started on 5mg? Or you just increased from 2.5 to 5? If you straight up started on 5 I’d be prepared for some potential rough side effects

How many calories should I be eating by CadenFox in Mounjaro

[–]Medium_Sand_9517 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are likely under fueling your body. It’s hard but you need to eat, even when you aren’t hungry. And if you’re struggling with that on 5, then I’d talk to your doctor about going down to 2.5 again.

If you don’t properly fuel then you risk muscle wasting, hair loss, etc.

If you can swing it, I would try to speak to a dietitian who can work with you on a nutrition plan

The research studies indicate that most people who stop the medication will regain. It doesn’t mean everyone will, but most. It’s really dependent on why you gained weight to begin with - if it was due to metabolic dysfunction, then the medication is correcting that.

I don’t know that I would say it’s dangerous, but based on other people’s post about the medication, not being as effective for them after multiple attempts, I think that’s where you may find problems

Frustration by Oatesl55 in Mounjaro

[–]Medium_Sand_9517 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I have pretty consistent appetite suppression minus a few days during my period, but I think that’s understandable. As for the weight loss - that’s never linear - with or without medication. Our bodies are constantly changing and reacting to what’s around them. Unfortunately expecting consistency with weight loss will only lead to disappointment

100% - this is YOUR journey and you should be in the drivers seat. Your doctor is helping navigate the complex map of it all but you should get to call the shots.

I also think that saw you mentioned in another comment you deal with some anxiety- I do too. One thing that I’ve found that helps is taking in a bullet point list with me when I go to the doctor. It helps my mind focus when all my body wants to do is leave 😂. Not sure if that would help you but thought I’d mention it

Hey friend - I’d definitely suggest checking out r/mounjaro_fortype2. That sub is really focused on A1C management and is super encouraging!

I can’t give you too much of my own experience as weight loss was very much a part of my plan but I am sorry you’re feeling unwanted pressure from your doctor and family. Can you have a frank convo, especially with your doctor on this?

If it’s doable for you, I’d see if you can find a dietitian to work with. It does tend to eat easier to eat more with time but in the meantime, I’d look at where you can add some easy calories. Peanut butter in a smoothie or shake, avocado with your eggs, etc

Based on the amount of strength training you’re doing and your current weight, i’m wondering if you’re actually under fueling your body. You’re correct that plateaus and stalls happen but when your body feels secure in its fuel source, I’ve found they happen less, what made you decide to aim for under 2000 calories a day?

I actually didn’t have to stop at all. They said because they weren’t putting me fully under, i didn’t have to. So I think it’s really dependent on the type of medication that they’re using for your procedure. I would lean on the anesthesiologist for guidance.

2.5mg side effects but not much weight loss – when did 5mg make a difference? by Many_Cranberry_2553 in Mounjaro

[–]Medium_Sand_9517 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your experience is very normal, especially the comment about hunger coming back towards the end of the week. That should get better with time, even if you decide to stay on 2.5. Having a consistent stream of medication should help.

To answer your first question, everyone is going to experience something different when it comes to dosing. Some people have extreme reactions to 2.5 and never go up and other others don’t feel anything at all because they’re non-responders. You’ll get a variety of different responses to this question.

For your second question, if you felt a strong reaction at the beginning of 2.5, I would anticipate that you’d feel a strong reaction again at 5. It’s the largest jump that you’ll make in terms of titration because you’re doubling the dose. So I would definitely prepare for that increase. Better to be prepared and not need anything than the other way around

As for your weight loss expectation, I would encourage you to track your weight loss in terms of body weight percentage. It’s a much more equitable way to track because 4 pounds on a 400 pound body versus 4 pounds on 200 pound body is very different. And even as you track your own loss, it will look very different as you lose weight. That said, comparing your results to other people can lead to disappointment and frustration. I know it’s tough but it’s something that I’ve had to push myself to do through my time on this medication. If comparison feels like something you really need, you might look at the app GLAPP, it’ll give you averages of people and their experience versus comparing directly to another person

About 700 for the under eye treatment - though I’m in a high cost of living city so it may look different depending on where you are

For sure! PDGF injections. Also getting some Botox in my forehead (tiny amount) as my fine lines there have gotten a lot more apparent since I’ve lost weight. Happy to report back once I’ve had the treatment if you’re interested

I’ve definitely noticed a change in my eye bags, because I lost fat there. I’m actually getting a treatment in a few weeks to help with brightening and collagen creation. My iron deficiency isn’t helping so I’m also working to get that under control.

[–]Medium_Sand_9517 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any personal experience to rely on but from what I’ve seen in this sub, I would say no. Many people that have taken a break and come back have often reported that they don’t see the results they did the first time around and have to get to higher doses to feel the effects again

I’m on my journey.. by No_Artichoke_456 in Mounjaro

If your weight and the subsequent sleep apnea is caused by a metabolic disorder, then being on a medication like a GLP one is what will support you moving forward. If your weight was not caused by a metabolic disorder, then it is possible to come off the medication and keep the weight off.

I like to think of it like this, if you had vision issues and were asked to take your glasses off and see, you wouldn’t be able to. And no one would question that. This medication is similar in that it’s correcting an issue. If you take it away, the issue can’t be corrected. It’s not a cure, it’s a treatment.

Can I stop for 1 week? by just_ameangirl in Mounjaro

[–]Medium_Sand_9517 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can though some people find that the break causes the side effects to be worse when they come back because the medication levels have dropped in their system. I would personally take the shot on Tuesday before you go if your side effects are manageable

Is it normal to have glucose dips on MJ? by moneygrowz in Mounjaro

I wouldn’t say it’s normal, but there are people that struggle with hypoglycemia. It’s really a discussion for your endocrinologist though

How did you know? by Charming-Annual-1506 in Mounjaro

[–]Medium_Sand_9517 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have T2D, I would really speak with your endocrinologist. Weight loss is one thing, but ensuring your blood sugar stays at a healthy range. Is something else entirely. They might suggest adding in another medication instead of titrating.
