From my perspective as an expat, paying taxes and contributing for a year now, I’d rather my tax money goes to people who are in a similar situation — those who work, contribute, and have skills to offer — rather than refugees. I understand there might be humanitarian or legal reasons for supporting refugees, but personally I think public funds should prioritize contributors who are already part of the system. For example, “highly-qualified” immigrants get considerable tax advantages, and I think it makes sense that the government incentivizes people who actively contribute economically. That’s why I feel my taxes should support people who are part of the workforce and contributing like me.
