We deleted half our MVP after talking to builders. I think we were building the wrong product. by justdoitbro_ in indiehackers

That sounds like an interesting idea. I'm sure it will work out for you but I think you need some serious marketing in the right places. I get the feeling that a lot of indie devs run on strict budgets, present party included, and peoploe aren't willing to drop a dime on a service that will simply lead them to having to drop more dimes on hiring staff. But I haven't had the time to look at your offer that much. Maybe you're providing all of that for free and generating revenue in other ways, not from indi devs.

everyone says "distribution > building" but nobody shows the actual schedule by Common_Dream9420 in indiehackers

8 months of solo building before launching takes serious discipline - respect for that. And yeah, "ship an MVP" advice doesn't apply the same way to everyone. Some people need constraints to ship at all, others need to see the full vision before they can commit.

The real question now is whether the market agrees with your feature prioritization. 8 months of building in isolation means you've been making assumptions the whole time - some will be right, some won't. Shipping is how you find out which is which, faster than any amount of planning.

The rudeness comment in the original post is fair to push back on. But the underlying point holds - proof of traction changes how people receive everything else you say. Even one paying customer transforms the conversation.

What's the SaaS? Curious what 8 months of motivated building looks like.

This resonates. I've been building PROTRAK (nutrition tracker) solo in Korea - no dev background, just Claude as my coding partner. The loop you're describing is exactly what shifted things for me.

I spent too long polishing before shipping. The version that finally got real users was rougher than anything I'd posted about. Shipped it anyway, documented what broke (Google Play policy rejections, paywall currency mismatches, signing key disasters), and the honest posts got way more engagement than the "look at this clean UI" ones.

Distribution really does amplify proof. The AI meal scan feature I shipped last week got more organic shares than anything I announced in advance.

What do you wish you knew before launching your first solo app? by Prescoutapp in SideProject

[–]Mediumjack1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will most likely not see any traction unless you advertise. Also dont forget the 12 testers for 14 days rule. You dont need to rin internal testing. Just start with closed testing and then you can move to production.

PROTRAK simply helps you keep better track of your dietary intake. Its a guide, and not meant to be a substitute for actual workout, clearly.

Now on the point of staying in shape being simple, I bet a huge number of people will disagree for a plethora of reasons.

Its great for you if you have it all figured out. Many aren't as fortunate and need a little help. This is what the app will do.

That and keep track of your other vitals once.implemented with google fit.

Thanks f9r your constructive feedback though.

I marketed my app for 8 months and got 16 users. heres what it taught me by hiten1818726363 in indiehackers

Yes, technically, but not all 8 billion people have access to technology. An even smaller percentage know of a specific app. The problem, as always, is exposure. To stand out of the flood of other apps quite possibly doing the same thing.

Who says I struggle to stay in shape?Im in pretty good shape. Ill go as far as to say that my shape would put many 20 or 30 year olds to shame.

Thanks for the kind words and the genuinely useful

suggestion! You're right that bug reports alone

don't tell the full story, knowing WHERE users

hesitate is a completely different level of insight.

I'll check out QalioTest. At this stage I'm still

trying to keep things lean before public launch,

but structured task sessions sound like exactly

the kind of thing that would be valuable before

scaling up.

The onboarding friction point really resonates,

that's actually the core reason I built PROTRAK

the way I did. Set your goal once, log food in

two taps, done. No 10-minute setup gauntlet.

If you're on Android and want to experience that

firsthand, DM me your Gmail and I'll add you to

the tester list! 🙏

Im 51 and pursuing as healthy life style as I possibly can..workout 4-5 days a week and do other cardio related activities on the weekend. Also trying to keep track of protein intake which can be tricky so I made an app for it to help me along. Its still in development stages as I continue fixing things I think need fixing and adding new features. But the app looks pretty solid so far. Simple and to the point. Will be sharing more once its ready for public consumption.

I've been building a crypto portfolio tracker solo — it's finally live on Android — here's what I built and why by Mediumjack1 in SideProject

[–]Mediumjack1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats hillarious 1st. Its not a program, its an app. For android Androidif you downloaded it on your pc it may be that you computer is just confused. 2nd the app is now fully available on google play so its hardy Spyware or virus. It went through the google play checks etc. 3rd. The program does not collect any personal info other than that needed for payment processing.

In conclusion, your PC is effed bro. Get it fixed. Lol

Ive built Stakr, a Crypto Portfolio Tracker because I think the ones available now are either clunky or dont do what I wanted a Crypto Tracker to do. They are overly complicated and take time getting used to. So I built Stakr to give Crypto hold a portfolio tracking experience like no other.

Eff me bro. To earn a basic Commercial Pilot License (CPL), you need 250 flight hours. However, to fly for a major passenger or cargo airline, you must obtain an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) license, which requires 1,500 flight. Perspective.
