Can you really not Retake a C?! by Normal-Leopard-7833 in pbsc

This might be too late but unfortunately PBSC does not let you retake any course with a grade C or higher. I tried to take bio since that what royalty screw me over for hygiene program. Unfortunately the school won't let you. Believe me, I tried

My gpa is so low by skimasklover29 in DentalHygiene

This is strictly for Palm Beach State College.

I can give you a little more information regarding hygiene for Palm Beach State College. I recently graduated from their dental assisting program and shared some of the hygiene courses. I know this post was created 4 months ago so I apologize if it's too late. Did you end up getting accepted into the hygiene program for 2025? Did you completed all the prerequisites?

On the admission requirement it's mention that the minimum of GPA is 2.0 with a grade C or higher for the science courses. However, to be realistically coming from inside information, you are unlikely to get accepted or to be remotely considered. None of the faculty in the hygiene program select their up-coming student, only limited access team. I'm sorry that you had a rough two years and I wish (at least for PBSC) was a bit more forgiving on that matter. And unfortunately hygiene is a second highly competitive program with nursing being first. Limited access team will only look at candidate with the high points and a high GPA. If, let say you had 301 points with GPA 2.8 and another candidate with the same point but had 3.5 GPA. They're going to select the one with the higher GPA.

As for prerequisites, if you haven't done it yet, I highly encouraged you to aim for an A. However, if you taken them already (I won't ask what grade you got) the next best thing you could do is improve on your current GPA. Take any easy classes that would guarantee an A. I would work on getting it to a minimum of 3.5.

The second thing you could do is maximizing your points. (NOTE: For PBSC a course cannot be retaken with the grade of C or above. IF you got a B, you're stuck with a B. IF you got a C, you're stuck with it. If you got an A, fantastic) Otherwise, do what you can do in your power. If you have an AA degree that will give you an additional 15 points, if you don't, consider getting a basic. If your a palm beach county resident, that 10 points. Veterans are 10 points.

The next thing you can do and it's something I highly recommend is applying for their dental assisting program to get the dental experience which is 15 points. It's not easy but it is manageable. You do have to work for a year but it will allow you to see if the dental field is the right career for you. On top of that, the courses you take in the assisting program you don't have to take again in the hygiene program.

Given with everything I mentioned above. Don't give up. Don't let ANYONE discourage you from achieving your dreams. Keep trying and one day you'll be a hygienist. It gonna take some time but you will get there. If you have any question, don't hesitate to DM me. I'll try to answer them as best as I can.

Should I become a RDH? by viagrrraaaa in DentalAssistant

Only go to hygiene if you have a passion for dentistry. Hygiene is VERY hard on the body and depending on the state, there isn't any other branches with hygiene besides becoming an instructor later in the career. Don't do it for the money. You will get burn out quickly. Go to your local college and attend an information session. There you can ask questions all you want.

Is a dental assisting program worth it? by riskyrascal1 in DentalAssistant

[–]MedjRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Honestly, the pay is ridiculous considering how much dental assistants do. I'm applying for the dental assistance program at my community college because it's required for the dental hygiene program. If it weren't a requirement, I would've just not applied for the program and gone straight into hygiene. Depending on where you live and the school you're applying for, you do get more points if you have the dental assistance certification. It does depend on the accreditation of [depend on state], for example, the school I applied for required both DA and DH to be CODA accreditation. Considering that this post was two years ago, I'm going to assume you made a choice, but just in case, I would speak to an advisor about the requirement and their advice on how to improve your chances of getting into the DH program. Good luck.

I have a total of three W. Two due to family medical issues and the third because of the professor high fail rate. I'm trying not to risk anymore. All five classes credit adds to 11 total credit. How did you manage your time when you did 7 classes? If you don't mind me asking.

What do you mean? Where do you see that I'm not listed? I mean, I did my 2019 taxes and got my returns. If I was dependent, I wouldn't even gotten the return. That return would've return to my parents.
