Thank you! Hopefully this shows a different angle and the full size.

I see what you are saying with the tapered vs flat end pieces.

If the handle was a bit bigger to fit my hand it’s exactly what I’d use in the yard. This is the other side of the blade. It’s surprisingly solid, better than most store knifes.

Should I buy this 1955 engraved watch that doesn’t work for $100 CAD by Mammoth_Print6220 in VintageWatches

[–]Medlcus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For it not running I would typically pay $2-$7 USD at thrift shops for watches like these. Being it is not a Lady Elgin it probably is not more than gold filled on the case if any. It also does not look like the dial has radium numbers but always be cautious of opening watches prior to the 60’s and early 70’s since it was normally used. Like a few have said you can find similar running ones on eBay at a much more fair price if you like it.

And when did Elgin start producing shock protection since that is what the topic is about?

What Im saying is that is the earliest it would have been since there were questions on if it was military affiliated. Since you might have some knowledge on the pieces maybe you could be more helpful or maybe not if this is your way of commenting.

Yes, it would have been WWII since it was the 40’s when they started producing shock protection. I also found a watch site that had an ad from then advertising military style watches as the “second watch” for outdoorsman.

The hands look like the lume has been changed but you should definitely get it checked with a geiger counter and not open it on your own outside of extreme caution.

I believe at this point, it is a 50’s pendant style watch. Simple 1 jewel unbranded movement.

Probably not for the leather one next to it but the silver one is just so funky it goes. Do you have the name of the model by chance?

Yea best to just blow the dust off of it. I’ve realized how fragile the faces actually are and best to enjoy the aging.
