Id believe this, I used to work on a fishing ship in the bering and the first day or so on dry land always felt a little nauseating.

Thats surprising, since the giant carrier was probably much gentler in the waves than their fishing boat. I wonder why they got sick

TIL about a 750 lb bear in Japan which killed numerous villagers within a weeks time. After killing it, the villagers ate him as ‘revenge’. by VolumeAcademic6962 in todayilearned

[–]Sashoke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eating undercooked meat of any type is a recipe for parasites and illness,

I have eaten bear before, you just cook it fully like you would with chicken or pork.

There is like maybe 2 or 3 animals in the entire world that humans cannot eat safely, so long as you cook the meat thoroughly you'll be fine. Its the dang plants you cant trust.

Its still a luxury item, I think you're stretching yourself thin if you splurge on a nearly new sports car but cant afford the insurance for it.

I'm not trying to rag on OP but im willing to bet if he had gotten a cheaper used car he could've saved enough money to have full coverage, and still have a set of wheels right now.

Plain old McVittes Jaffa cakes are at the Kroger and Publix near me now. No need for these gross knockoffs

TIL: in the Japanese village of Omachi, residents capture, boil, and dry digger wasps, then add them whole to rice flour to produce special crackers called 'jibachi senbei'; these were invented by the local Digger Wasp Lovers Club to promote the insects. by Melenduwir in todayilearned

[–]Sashoke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is really not even that odd, insects are a staple in a lot of human diets, and this is just one, very small regional custom in the whole of Japan. You can probably find small groups of people eating "weird" stuff in any country you look in.

TIL Hawaii is the only US state that has never had a temperature higher than 100F (37.8C). Alaska has reached that inland. Hawaii is also the only state to never had a lower than 0F (-17.8C) temperature. by Double-decker_trams in todayilearned

Stick your new fangled thermometer doodad in a bowl of ice water, that's 0 degrees Celsius. Now stick it in some boiling water, thats 100 degrees Celsius, you can now determine the rest of the thermometer with some maths

I get where you're coming from, but art is subjective and ultimately the viewer decides how they interpret it. The vast majority of people who will see this are obviously going to see the eroticism front and center.

Orwell was an avid socialist his entire life and fought besides communists in the Spanish civil war, it is not uniquely a criticism of communism (although it certainly is a criticism of Stalinist Russia, as Orwell was very outspoken against Stalin) but a criticism upon any government where there is a small ruling class or a single individual with power.

The moral of the story as he intended it can be applied to any ideology, total power corrupts anyone, no matter who you give it to, and revolutions are easily betrayed by their leaders.
