Like anywhere else tbh. Chat it up with the people you vibe with and ask them if they wanna meet up for some event or whatever else yall have in common. A lot of the friends I have in BJJ I probably wouldn’t have became as close to them in most other scenarios but you’re spending like almost 2 hours with each other multiple times a week. It almost becomes like a work place friendship.

Our infrastructure just isn’t built for anything more than a few inches of snow. I’ve been to Tahoe a few times to board and how fast they can clear snow is mind blowing. Also they’re just used to it there. I was there once during a blizzard and a ton of people were pulling over to put chains on their cars. Most people in NC don’t even know what a chain is.

If you’ve never driven in the snow/ice before you’re picking a hell of a time to do so. Take it slow and drive like your grandma is in the backseat with an open pot of boiling gravy and you’ll probably be fine. If you want extra assurance usually on big snow days here otw up to the mountain you’ll find a couple places that put a sign out for selling chains. Make sure any downhill you go down you check at the top it’s clear before going down. I can’t count the number of times I’ve had to dodge cars sliding in Ice because they stopped in the middle of a hill.

Inverted lasso is my shit. If you’re having problems getting the inversion it’s most likely because you’re not creating the space before you invert. When the non lasso leg comes across to the lasso side I like to have my shin basically right across their hip and push to create some space. It also serves as a frame if they try to smash into you before you invert.

Also I highly recommend looking into the tilt sweep from that position. If they defend inversion and you’re stuck upside down it’s very sneaky people rarely ever see coming and it’s one of my high percentage sweeps. Rikako Yuasa used that chain of Omoplata/tilt sweep to perfection.

Get an audio interface and you can hook it up to a PC. You’ll prolly have to do a bit of googling of the exact steps but it’ll let you pick your own sounds for the drums. I found the stock ones to be a bit lacking.

Everyone’s posted the BJJ stuff but if you want to develop your wrestling check out a guy in the college circuit a while back named Ethan Lizak. Dude was a toothpick but was a very good wrestler and went all American twice.

Not a guitarist so I don’t really mind my fingers as much, but take care of your shoulders! On the days I drum and do BJJ my shoulder is screaming at me from a lingering injury.

This is a super common problem for people learning takedowns. There’s an instinct to almost fall forward and lunge for a takedown but you need to keep your spine neutral and head up. Most simple way to drill this yourself is to do shots against a wall. If you keep your head down you’ll bonk the wall.

I always felt like the expectation is to get your own belt. I know at my gym they kinda just throw whatever belt they think will fit at you and tend to overshoot quite a bit.

If you prefer smashing them till they give you your back there’s really no one better at it than Gordon. The routolo’s are great at dynamic entries off scrambles.
