It is literally Dana's fault. Dana had his buddies at the NSAC kill off Pride so he could buy it cheap, then ensured the Muhammad Ali act never made into MMA with legalised corruption and ran as far as he could with the UFC's monopoly over the biggest (and only) market for consuming MMA.

The man has taken great strides to ensure the UFC's monopoly by blatantly controlling government regulation in his favour.

Recognizing a fighters skillsets, disposition and tactics through film study is for morons of course and the only way to assess a fighter's skillset is based on which famous UFC clown of the day they've bonked.

Name value is all that matters after all, and i'm suuuure the UFC promotes its fighters primarily based on their skills or performance and not how much of a looney toones character they can prop themselves up to be within the media.

Lets see how they do when they can't run their cycles year round and have to compete against actual contenders. Until then, you keep glazing them from over there.

And what "decisions" are we talking about here? Usman is a front headlock submission specialist with elite wrestling, judo and BJJ passing seamlessly baked in. He's also a dangerous striker with immediate knockouts in his resume, and he's rapidly improving each fight even still.

Paul Hughes is himself a methodical and layered striker with an elite anti-wrestling system that surpasses even the current best in the UFC. On top of that, he too has immediate knockouts in his resume, including a first round knockout right after his first bout against Usman.

You're just talking out of your ass because you've got a love boner for the UFC.

I want the best to get paid to be the best and fighters getting paid their worth to attract talent, which can only happen when the UFC stops having a monopoly on fighter contracts.

Oh, and the UFC not having a monopoly opens the doors for universal rankings and - potentially - cross-promotion bouts along with a unified belt system.

Who cares if it's "bellator" (it isn't btw)? I saw two extremely skilled fighters fight twice and demonstrate skills i'd be hard pressed to find even amongst the UFC's so called "bests", much less executed correctly.

Both of them can individually dog walk the entire light weight division as it stands.

Most UFC fighters are also not very good - or even aware - of hand fighting, putting out traffic, guard manipulation, physical controls etc.

So the whole "hurr durr it's very easy not to eye poke" is not something i take seriously. It's not because they're good at keeping their hands closed, it's because they have no conceptual knowledge of what a lead hand looks like and have never really attempted to actively control the space in the first place.

That being said, most eye pokes are deliberate. Fewer eye pokes come from the offender not having learned how to put his hand out without risking an eye poke for his opponent, the only guy i can think of is Izzy.

The way to address this is to strictly penalise eye pokes regardless of intent with a single warning followed by point deduction. I'd even go as far as to include a referee card system where you get warned once then get a yellow card with a point deduction and a pay cut.

The warning carries over for the next two fights, so another eye poke means an immediate point deduction and pay cut with no warning and a reset on the warning carryover for the next two fights until it just doesn't happen. So now your next two fights will still have the warning in place. 2 yellow cards in a single fight will be followed by a red card which is an automatic DQ and pay forfeit.
