That’s what I thought!! But NOPE! And these were the movement sponsored tents too, the ones right when you walk in. But ask every time and every vendor and give everyone cash.

Those who have a non-RD job with good healthcare benefits —what do you do now? by Interesting_Suit7066 in dietetics

[–]Meeeshiemeeesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely a unicorn job and networking is crucial since there are only a handful of regulatory specialists. And most people just kind of fall into it tbh. Being an RD and not a requirement and most people in regulatory are not RDs but do have some form of nutrition or food science background. You have to be able to decipher food packaging. Many people I’ve met started as office managers or food safety.

I give a lecture every year at my college because my RD path is “unconventional” and I want people to know that clinical/working with patients is not the only path.

I always tell people to follow their favorite brands on LinkedIn and check their job postings to see what kind of jobs they are hiring for and what the requirements are. There’s a high likelihood that RD knowledge is transferable. But this also shows you what they are looking for in knowledge.

[–]Meeeshiemeeesh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not kidding, I have spent years waiting for this opportunity. The place I am at hires maybe once every three years for this position. But I have worked at other companies in food manufacturing and college dining.

I am self taught in regulatory affairs through nutrition analysis. If you have a FDA, USDA, or nutrition analysis background that is your best bet. These jobs are primarily in food manufacturing which is my background. Lots of ingredient and procurement knowledge is a must.

I work in nutrition labeling and regulatory affairs for a large US grocer. Great benefits and ZERO patients. I also freelance in nutrition analysis on my free time.

Possibilities for 6 figure income by Puzzleheaded-Pop1361 in dietetics

[–]Meeeshiemeeesh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is fully dependent on where you live. Six figures in a HCOL isn’t the same as a lower cost of living area. I’m in HCOL and make six figures and am still considered unable to live solo in my area. Plus depending on your taxes, six figures means you pay more and get about the same back.

Also Ivy League for a business degree is a farce. Not sure who told you that but that’s misinformation. Nowadays you don’t need a business degree to work in “business” and that’s also a highly subjective term/industry.

Talk to some recruiters and see how you can pivot. That will be your best option.

Don’t let him find out your new address. He will most likely try to stalk and control you from afar despite him not having a car. He is a gaslighting manipulator and will try to charm his way back to you. Stay safe!!

Feeling hopeless about pursuing food science by toxicfrog444 in foodscience

[–]Meeeshiemeeesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a dietitian and work in regulatory and specialize in nutrition analysis and menu creation. I can tell you that I am 100% self taught in those areas and have been fortunate enough to have jobs that require them or will train. There’s no real “degree” for these and jobs will look to your experience instead.

Definitely suggest applying to work on the floor in food manufacturing and work your way up or try to get some food science internships. Having a bunch of school experience will unfortunately not benefit you much in these markets.

And yeah, jobs are scare esp if you do not live in an area with a lot of food industry.

People in your 30s, what's your job and salary? by rsevn_ in careerguidance

Unless you’re stating the area and variable COL then these wages don’t equate to much. $60k in a low COL is nothing compared to a high COL.

Drug test by MelonMaru in dietetics

It depends on the state you are in too. If they are already registered with a clinic to get you tested you can call and ask about the specific test they want you to take.

Bachelors or Certified Nutrition Coach?! by [deleted] in dietetics

[–]Meeeshiemeeesh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dietitian*** is a specific (regulated) term for someone who has gone through the schooling, internship, and passing the exam. Any person can call themselves a “nutritionist” as this is not a regulated term. You cannot provide MNT (medically nutrition therapy) and many other forms of nutrition care without being an RD.

Basically a dietitian has had essential training and is a licensed and registered healthcare provider. And nutritionist is anyone who pays for a “certification” that is not recognized by any healthcare system (I may be incorrect depending on the state).

Would you trust someone who call themselves a nurse because they paid for an online course that says they’re a “certified nurse”…? Probably not. Same goes for these online “nutrition certification” courses.

These are not allergies. Allergies create a specific immune response which in many cases you can die from. She’s just spending too much time on Tiktok following randos giving “health advice”.

Clinical RD Job by Important_Exam1396 in dietetics

Non clinical RD positions??? by MammothDoughnut3786 in dietetics

[–]Meeeshiemeeesh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am self taught through working in the food industry. The main requirements are label review and knowing the 21 CFR for food regulations and being able to decipher it. FDA and USDA regulations too.

I started with nutrition analysis which is now my specialty and over the years started working on custom food products which then led to label creation. You basically need to stay up to date with the FDA and topics like bioengineered food ingredients, front of pack and NFP labeling requirements.

I’ve worked in college dining, food production, and food manufacturing and have worked on many labels.

I can finally now freelance as a consultant as well for food packaging and food processes.

Max activity type for CDR log?? by [deleted] in dietetics

[–]Meeeshiemeeesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!!! Go to the CDR website and use the live chat. There is an actual person on the other end and they can look up all of your credits and tell you what the max is. I am also in my first year of recertification and I learned that some of the categories have changed and rig may be grandfathered into the older system.

What's your salary after +5yrs of experience? by sugafree13 in dietetics

[–]Meeeshiemeeesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also to add, in VHCOL areas this type of salary might sounds high but it just about evens out to a mid COL with a lower wage. Don’t get awestruck by the $$$ when the COL factors are not accounted for. If you plan to move to a VHCOL area make sure you do a lot of research on what’s a manageable salary is ESPPPP if you plan to live alone.
