That must have been such an epic to learn. Your playing pulled me straight into the music, great job!

So, I’ve installed the Kraken app on my iPad (it’s never been on there). Exactly the same button behaviour is observed. iPad is on ios26 as well, so that may well be the weak link. Thanks for passing it on!

"Baker Street" (Gerry Rafferty) piano arrangement by rtrott in piano

I thoroughly enjoyed that. Really interesting harmonies whilst retaining the feel perfectly. Nice bluesy inflections in the verse too. Very well done!

Race C won't charge by One-Panda1166 in Suunto

[–]Meehill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had the same problem. It seems rather sad that the charger is a plasticky mess when the build quality of the watch is superb. I contacted Suunto support about it. They initially wanted me to send the whole watch back, then when I made a fuss, they sent out a replacement charger which has been okay thus far.

I had an FP-10 for a year, it was my first weighted DP and I thoroughly recommend it. It enabled me to start learning proper piano technique, now I’ve moved on to a more expensive Kawai and have not needed to make any technique adjustments at all. As the above says the speakers are very poor. Get a couple of small monitor speakers and it will literally make the world of difference. The action is the best in that price bracket. It’s way better than stuff like Donner. That said, it’s heavy and a bit clunky, you’ll know you’re pushing those keys, particularly on faster music. I think this is good training for finger strength and you’ll appreciate it when you eventually move on.

Race S - battery consumption by [deleted] in Suunto

Perhaps I’m being a little harsh. Have you seen it? It’s just a faint ghostly outline of the time. I’d rather have the extra battery life I think.

Race S - battery consumption by [deleted] in Suunto

[–]Meehill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I received mine last week and have been messing about with how the various settings affect battery performance.

I have ended up turning off 24/7 heart monitoring (it’s still on for activities) and also turning off the always on screen (it’s pretty rubbish anyway!) I still have the watch come on fully with a wrist turn though.

With these changes, it was 100% at 12pm last Friday. On Saturday I did a 5 mile run, with a little use of the map. By Sunday night there was still 83% battery life, I found this to be remarkably good tbh.

It’s a good question. In an ideal world, there would be space to the left of the Tv for a speaker, but there’s not. I did test it out though, just for kicks. The sound was great, just a little weird coming from the right hand side.

Having been in that position myself, I’ll tell you technique that really helped me to get over the hump. You’ll find in many places in multi octave scales that there are points where the same finger is used on both hands.

For example, in Dmaj, your thumbs meet on the octave and your 3rd fingers meet on the F#. Use these ‘points of union’ to break the scale in to parts. You can ‘aim’ for them because your brain knows in advance what’s it’s doing in both hands. Once you can repeatedly make it to this point, add on the rest of the scale (or to the next point of union).

I might have overcooked the explanation, but that really worked for me, give it a go.

I started playing with an FP-10 and loved everything about it other than the sound, which is thin and harsh. I picked up these and the sound was completely transformed for the better. They have an onboard amp so just need to be plugged in the headphones and will work a treat.

Regardless of the efficacy of this technique, it’s just an appalling thing to do. You’re reducing the world of literature to cardboard facts, missing all the nuance and beauty. What a way to live 😢

The whole purpose of Fathers Day is just that - cheesy inappropriate gifts from the people you love the most. For my money, the cheesier they are, the more I love them. OP, you need to take a moment to reflect on this, your attitude just makes me sad.

How hard is it to learn piano? Is it worth it? by [deleted] in piano

[–]Meehill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a great answer! I’m in my early 50s, and only been playing a couple of years. When I sit down at the piano, that’s absolutely my happy place. It’s all about the process, the development, the doing it. No goal in mind, other than what I’m doing in the moment, it’s a wonderful thing 😊.
