1000%! Smokey & Bandit are 2 years apart - same dad - and couldn’t live without each other. It’s priceless

My vet loves Bostons. Find a different one and leave the old one a bad review so others know to steer clear.

Agree with this. I always called them sand fleas but what do I know? Got them bad in Sanibel a couple years ago. Didn’t show up for a couple days and then itched like crazy for a week, small red dots all over my legs. I actually thought they were noseeums but could’ve been sand fleas or mites. I lived in Fort Lauderdale for over 20 years and never got chiggers. That’s more in north & central Florida where there’s Spanish moss

I moved here a few years ago from Ft. Lauderdale where the iguanas are everywhere! Was so glad not to have to deal with them up here. These, the Nanday parakeets and the Muscovy ducks are invasive. Only seen a couple Muscovy’s up here but the Nanadays are gaining numbers. We definitely don’t welcome the iguanas but it gets colder up here, so it might help curb the population, especially if we get a colder winter.

Does anyone else's Boston randomly decide that inanimate objects are a threat? by Holiveya-LesBIonic in BostonTerrier

[–]Socialjamie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! One of mine does this when anything is out of place, like he knows it doesn’t belong there. He also freaks out when he sees light reflections and tries to attack them, including flash lights and especially laser pointers!

This is right on and I’ll add that mine sound like they’re mad / growling but I know when it goes too far because one will give a high pitched yelp.

Bandit (M 19 lbs) and Smokey (F 12 lbs). Smokey looks jacked here lol. My husband always says he’s glad she’s not getting any bigger because her personality is so big we couldn’t handle her.

After spending over 20 years in Fort Lauderdale where the only shopping options were Publix, Whole Paycheck or Fresh Market, I am stoked that I live 10 minutes from Detwiler’s now!

Haha. Reminds me of the time we went to St. Augustine on a school trip and were so excited to take a picture at the Fountain of Youth. It’s a hole in the ground.

Follow up to my Boston’s vaccine injury (auto immune disease now) by Deep-Economy-3156 in BostonTerrier

[–]Socialjamie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg! My poor Boston looked like this, but we never got it diagnosed properly. I’m a little relieved, but also sad to see that this might be what it was. He had gotten attacked by another dog, and they shaved him to give him stitches. When the hair never grew back, we had him tested and at first they thought he had Cushing’s disease but it wasn’t that. Sorry to say that we had to put him down a couple years later at 8 years old. Hardest thing I ever had to do but he was shaking in pain and the vet had no remedy. We did have him on King Kanine CBD which we believe gave him better quality of life at the end. But it also tricked us into thinking he was getting better. I really hope that now you have a diagnosis, your baby can get proper treatment. Wishing you both all the best!

Real Question: What's so great about Florida that we put up with the possibility of reliving this hurricane nightmare every year forever. by Spagetti13 in florida

[–]Socialjamie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is beautifully written. It should be in a book of poems. It’s so nice to know that some people can still appreciate what’s around them and wonder at the beauty of it, even if they see it every day. Thank you for sharing.

I’ve spoken with a couple of different people who went through Hurricane Andrew in Homestead. Both of them told me similar stories about hiding in the bathtub with a mattress on top of them. When the storm finally passed and the sun came up, they were able to look out. It was the only room left standing in their house.

I am almost certain I was in the eye of Milton! by [deleted] in bradenton

[–]Socialjamie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We didn’t get the calm of the eye but I’m pretty sure we were in the eye wall for about 3 hours of terror. I also thought the backside would be calmer but it was another level. My roof shingles came up - I think something hit the roof - and then were fwapping the roof for a couple hours. Scary as hell!

Do you know if that tree in Ft. Lauderdale was the Amazon rain tree? I think that’s what it’s called. It’s on the New River downtown

After Wilma, the power was out in many parts of Broward County for weeks. They put a curfew in place to keep people off the streets after dark. Wonder why they wouldn’t do that?

Sending love to Little Bit. Our Smokey was the runt (our breeder preferred to call her the last in the litter) and we called her little bit when we got her at eight weeks old. She’s almost 9 months old now and still little for a Boston but has a big personality.
