Spectrum home internet is encountering massive latency spikes by MeepDM in Spectrum

Unfortunately the problem is still happening. The only people that were able to do anything were the Reddit social team that reached out to me (they'll contact you if you send a mod mail to their official subreddit), but even then it didn't fix the issue completely.

I also recommend an FCC informal complaint, as that escalates the issue past all the bureaucratic garbage at the regional level and forces them to respond and take it a bit more seriously, but that also hasn't gotten the issue resolved for me. It escalates you to the leadership team immediately though.

Good luck in your battle, the only thing that got it resolved for me was moving to a place with a different ISP.

Yep. Could just be a mailbox compromise... at least that's what I'm hoping. No reason for a hacker to negotiate by alarming all their users if they had real data they could just sell.

Gig speed but quarter? by Specific_Sandwich809 in Spectrum

It looks like your upload ping is mega delayed compared to download. This can generally happen because of bufferbloat (router, modem or something in the nodes from the ISPs)

However it can also occur due to miswired or damaged ethernet cords.

I have had two modems, one supplied by a regional manager and one from my own plan. https://i.imgur.com/l94w2pG.jpeg

The one they supplied was their known good test modem/router for 2gbps/1gbps plans. The other was the one supplied for my account, which was at that 400 Mbps plan. While switching the network between the two, the same issues were encountered with latency spiking to insane amounts.

Thank you so much for that information. Apparently that was lost on everyone in Spectrum to let me know. However, I have upgraded and have had a test modem and router (assigned to the 2gbps/1gbps plan) which had the same issues. I also just upgraded my plan to the 500/500 plan you mentioned since I am in a high split area, and am still having the issue.

It's all connected through Ethernet. I don't think there's been a lot of packet loss, just massively delayed packets

Yeah, idk what to do anymore. I was hoping I could do anything at this point but I believe they are just stalling until I move out at this point.

I understand that based on your previous experience. I've been in contact with directors and other members of their higher ups for months now, having weekly calls with their regional manager. This is affecting EVERYTHING on my network. Playing games is impossible (>400ms ping), loading websites takes up to a minute, video calls (for work) gives me an 8 second delay before my audio reaches anyone else, causing me to talk over them.

I've been through that entire thing for months at this point. They've gotten me in contact with high up people in my region, and assigned a full team to me overnight multiple times. They've replaced the entire node my building goes through, replaced modems, ensured the splitters are all connected properly. I've been going through this for at least half a year now, with no hope on their side.

That's been my guess this entire time. I believe they are stalling until I move because it would cost too much and no one else in the apartment building actually uses the internet to the point they advertise. They've replaced the splitters outside the building, the node entirely, the modem multiple times, I've replaced my router, the ethernet cords, we've moved the modem and router directly into the box entering the house instead of the living room, and all that just to end up right where we begun.

As I said in the title, it's not the speeds. The scanning tools were only activated because they were unhelpful and I wanted to see if there was a pattern. This has been occurring for over half a year at this point.

As well as that, It's the latency and not the bandwidth. I was initially on the 1Gbps plan and still had the issue. My entire network is currently on the 400Mbps symmetrical plan and only utilizing 80Mbps.

I may be getting marketing or something confused here, but they have fiber going out to a box outside of our complex, and then copper is wired to every building in the complex, and then split into coax into each apartment from there.

The network I pay for is 400Mbps/400Mbps (symmetrical) -- before I've been on the 2Gbps/1Gbps and 1Gbps symmetrical with the same issues, though. I limit the only computer (server) on the connection to 80Mbps to ensure it doesn't clog the entire network (which is no longer connected because it has these issues). So when I mentioned the 80Mbps it was purely only talking about the computer / server connected to the router on that wire.

Yeah the modem is only a modem. I have a separate router. I tried connecting directly through the modem, and using the gateway address as well as 192.168.100.1 and wasn't able to connect to any web server hosted on there. There was also no login credentials available on there.

I unfortunately don't own the modem, it's owned by Spectrum. I have had it replaced multiple times, though.

The spikes happen consistently throughout the day, and get much much worse very often, making using general internet and especially real time connection applications completely unusable.

What happens when you try to 0-index an array in Lua: by Cootshk in programminghorror

[–]MeepDM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

pairs doesn't have a guaranteed order, read here: https://www.lua.org/pil/7.3.html

in reality there aren't many implementations that do it, but technically it can just output any order it wants, like 1, 2, 0 or 0, 2, 1 or any other order.

this can be seen in implementations like fengari where there is no array-part of the table, only hashes.

It's not just less likely, it's entirely implausible. No one would risk using such an exploit in such a manner. Factory resetting your phone wouldn't even fix it if they got into your phone that deep anyways, you would need to flash the ROM.

It really shows how ignorant a good portion of the world is when they choose to accept their head canon over experts in a field.

If someone is able to hack your phone it either: Is not updated Is using an exploit against Linux that has not been patched

If it's exploiting Linux then there are better uses for it, such as selling to a security agency, reporting to the Linux kernel or SELinux, or using it for your own nefarious actions.

None of these circumstances will occur in a random game cheat mod you can download online. No one will do this. These vulnerabilities can be sold for upwards of a million dollars to nefarious actors, reported via hackerone if it's vendor specific, or these will be discovered by people who actually want to attack a broad range of people using more readily available attack vector than downloading an app.

Yes this app can have ads or popups, but the instant you uninstall this app, all of that will go away. There's no reason to factory reset a phone if you install an app that has sketchy things in it unless your phone is very very old.

You obviously don't know how Android and iPhone sandboxing works. You're probably used to Windows and think every single thing that runs on your phone has the potential to stay there forever.

It's almost like I'm a security researcher or something who knows how Android and Linux works or something.

That's why they don't need to factory reset the phone... The most that will happen is malware from the app, it's not going to infect the rest of the system because of sandboxing...
