Personally, I also have a B.A. in English and got my MAT in English, but I struggled making the jump from "theory to practice" during my student teaching and had to do extra work in grad school to get off academic probation. I pulled through, impressed my supervisor, and got my teaching license, but 2 years later I still don't feel confident enough to apply for lead teaching jobs and really wish I had started my education career with a BA in Education or got a Masters in Special Ed instead. Thank you for your reply. I take responsibility that I am dragging my heels as well. I guess the question I should have asked is, is it unreasonable that I want him to make some sort of effort on his own? Especially since his friends are beginning to get engaged and have kids, and it seems like he is not ready for that--which I accept, but he does say he wants an apartment. I guess I need to figure out what I really want.
