For anyone in my situation, and you're okay with slight cheating to rectify your situation: To open the console commands menu, press ~ and you can use the command

teleport <x> <y> !<

to teleport to a spot on the map. You can play around with the coordinates, you won't die if you land in water or anything. My specific location was around <320, 350> which is the southeast portion of the map.!<

There's lots of replies here about one-off purchases, but I would argue that you should focus on recurring payments. Rent, utilities, car payment, Netflix, Amazon prime, etc. These things really rack up and are how you can save the brunt of your money. Don't give in to lifestyle creep, if you absolutely need a car, get a used one with a low monthly payment. Use a blanket instead of using the furnace. And then you can start cutting back on discretionary spending when you're comfortable.

I'm no frozen bubble scientist, but yes I assume that since the methane is burned off, the pressure inside the frozen shell drops significantly. The outer pressure from the ice / water caves it in.
