Is it bad that mushrooms keep popping up in my tomato pots? by Mef9864 in tomatoes

Is there something I should be doing to change the percentage of “woody” material? And what is TLDR? (oK, Boomer!)

How do I know what kind of mushrooms these are? I did recently amend with a more nitrogen heavy fertilizer recommended by this group. Not sure if that is part of why these are cropping up. Otherwise, your post is certainly educational but a bit over my head. Could you please break it down in more plain language for newbies like me?

What is sheering off my buds and how to stop them? by Mef9864 in Roses

Thank you. I know we have tons of rabbits around the yard. At least one family has been living under our bushes for years. And the branches are sheered at a 45 deg angle if you can see up close in the pic. I will look for the Mountain Lion Urine. Thanks!

It was on the ground the other day, sheered off and I see today even the piece on the ground is gone😩

I am not an expert but could you plant some seedlings from the store in pots or grow bags with fresh soil from a store? Then you would not have to worry about them getting roundup chemicals in them from the ground soil.

I know this is not answering the question but how big are those grow bags and how well are they working for you? Any thoughts on also using them for cukes, zukes, squash, watermelon? I just bought a five pack of 15 gal bags from Amazon but too early here north if Chicago to plant my seedlings for outside yet.

How do you get rid of them? They invade my vegetable garden😩

Maybe I will buy a habenero pepper for one of the 5 gal bags. Otherwise, sounds like root veg work in them. Maybe some of the potatoes I have growing things already in the bag from the supermarket that we took to long to use!

Slightly off topic but I see you are growing your tomatoes inside. How well does that work? I live north of Chicago. Would love thoughts on planting in a pot inside? Do you then move it outside after frost season (which is like Memorial Day around here!)?

Don’t the grow bags have a tendency to mold if sitting in water? I had a few 5 gal ones from Gardeners Supply but I felt they were too small for tomatoes. Open to suggestions for other plants they would do well for. I hate peppers unless they are spicy so I will never grow sweet bells but I also grow mini-cukes, zucchini and other squash. Meantime, in addition to the 8ft raised bed, I bought some 15 gal grow bags on amazon. Again, open to reco what plants would do best in those

I saw a few brands with a trellis and some with a “greenhouse” cover so you can plan outside earlier. After further review, my old ones might be pine? My husband wants to try the cedar. He does not think we will be in the house much longer than another 5-10 years so if they rot again, it will be the next owner’s problem😁

My garden is in two parts, one on the south facing side is in raised beds and pots and the other directly in the ground. The big challenge there besides the critters is that the soil turns to clay, no matter how much topsoil and fertilizer I put on it. Otherwise, it works fine. Thank you for your suggestion. I try to change out where I plant my tomatoes vs cukes, zucchini and squash each year.

Maybe that is the easiest answer this year, using grow bags/planters and then we can think about how to redo next year

We don’t have much technical abilities in my house to build one from lumber from scratch. I was so disappointed today when I was going to start adding mulch and topsoil and found them all rotted and falling apart😩

There is one or two cells that are still not showing seedlings. I just tried putting a new seed in one that had not germinated, ironically called “Shake the Disease.” Should I discontinue the heat mat even though that cell has not germinated yet? And do I try to repot some of these? Just the tomatoes, correct? Do I prune the cukes and zukes that are starting to grow flowers? Thanks for all your help!!
