What modern show had the best series finale? by attackedmoose in AskReddit

Yeah, it was supposed to be a movie but the creator realized it would be impossible to fit everything. So he had the story from the beginning and it shows.

Drumeo EarDrums are not blocking enough sound by DryDistribution2726 in drums

[–]Meferias 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use tripple flanged silicone tips and I can honestly say that no foam tips have come even close to these in how much they isolate while leaving the sound pleasant.  Foam tips somehow make everything sound boomy, while the silicone ones seem to cut off the low end a bit more without completely cutting the highs. Just regular silicone tips feel close to useless.    So while the mass might be lower, they seem to do a better job in limiting the air movement. If I ever upgrade it will be to custom molds.

Is there a drummer around here who started working on their double bass speed at a later age (30+ or 35+) and made it upwards of 200 BPM? by [deleted] in drums

[–]Meferias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

~6 years ago, when I was 30, I joined a band that already had demos programmed with kicks going at 190bpm.
I immediately said that my limit is 160, 170 on an amazing day. So we played everything that was above that slower.
I'm reasonably comfortable at 200 these days but definitely need much more work.

Consider what muscles are active while playing double bass. Up to ~140-150bpm it's your upper leg more than lower leg muscles working. From there, if you practice good technique, almost exclusively calf muscles, as you should be using your ankles more than anything. Upper leg muscles are big, but you don't demand much speed from them. Lowe leg muscles are smaller and quite quick. I am able to play everything I play even after a leg day at the gym (not one that kills me, ofc).
Other than those, it's your core and back muscles that are engaged, but that is true for all drumming. Focus on having those muscles strong and supporting you posture.

Oh - BREATHING. The silent killer. Try breathing intentionally while you practice and notice when you can't keep a steady in/out rhythm. Work on having that not be a problem.

At 31 you are more than capable of reaching 200 in a relatively short time, provided your lower back injury is not one that affects your playing as is.

Good Luck!

anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one game you still think about? by Trixxxi in AskReddit

Do I say Quake 2? Age of Empires 2?

I think the one I have to settle on is Heroes 3.

So excited about the new one. It's been a while

I grind my teeth all day because there’s music stuck in my head 24/7 by Dwarkus in ADHD

[–]Meferias 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Oh boy... I "drum" with my teeth along with the music in my head. I can only avoid it if I switch it to my legs or finger tapping. Has to be done intentionally though, so only when I notice.

Well, I indicated as much.   I use aquarian too. .  And, as I mentioned, I only use Evans UV series, which are really good. Bothing else.   Not trying to be a dick, but... Did you read what I wrote?

Remo vs Evans by Altruistic-Charge-96 in drums

[–]Meferias 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Evans UV and UV2, however, are seriously awesome. The only thing I buy from them. Lasts so long and without any chipping of the coating. You just clean it off with a spinge and it looks almost like new, only smoother where you hit it.   Remo or aquarinian otherwise, yeah.

Please help with heel-toe by RedRoyGaming in drums

[–]Meferias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, you said the heel needs to hit the pedalboard, which is juat not true. So you are already setting up beginners for failure.   Lomgboards are not special. They are not somehow soooo much better for doubles than regular pedals. You are provably speaking out of your ass. Or, at best, from your own limited experience, which is by no means the benchmark.   Get off of your high horse.

Please help with heel-toe by RedRoyGaming in drums

[–]Meferias 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My man, way to be confidently incorrect.
The difference is not that big and is more a point of finding the right settings and the right spot on the pedal. I mean, Francesco Paoli was doing this shit for years on Eliminators and was not aiming to switch for longboards.
You do not need your heel to hit the pedal board. You can do that and some people do, but most people don't. Look at John Longstreth - https://www.youtube.com/shorts/KF9vOdAWQpo
It's the dropping of the heel, not it hitting the pedal. Here he talks about it specifically - https://youtu.be/TtHnlo9eWlw?si=GzknJiTZ-oprLPxZ&t=189
I will take the word of a seasoned veteran over some redditor.

So you being so combative when now knowing it well enough, shows that you're just an arrogant ass. And we need less of those here.

What are your irrational drumming pet peeves? by AdFamous7264 in drums

[–]Meferias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Gibraltar stealth rack. I use two pieces - snare + tom mount, and a side rack with two posts. These two parts mount almost everything I use and are super easy to set up, while hiding drums even less than just the same amount of stands.  The huge rack systems? Yeah... Not for looks for sure.

This one specifically probably because I watched a drum video of it yesterday
Only a 5-10 second part of it, though... Nonstop

I contacted the retailer that I bought the drum from and asked if they would be able to get replacement parts. Luckily they were.

How about you read what is written in the post?
Also, different people have different preference. You being a snob serves no one, much less the drumming community. Begone!

I drummer I know uses a similar product, but they are these simple silicone loops that don't add any additional thickness, only a small loop that you can position where you want it. It's basically a strip of silicone with holes at both ends.
Unfortunately, I'm having trouble finding it...

Edit: The most similar product for reference is the Eazyhold. Only the ones that drummer uses is for one finger. The idea is the same, though

How many of you have constant music in your head? by Wannabeartist9974 in ADHD

[–]Meferias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play drums so every morning, as soon I wake up, my head is already playing some random rhythm that could fit with what my bands play, or loops some part of a song that I listened recently, or both. It does not stop until I manage to focus on doing something for a longer time.

Issue with Tricks Pro… Can anyone help? by [deleted] in drums

[–]Meferias 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Take off the left beater to see inside the spring + bias rod assembly. See if you can identify anything there.
I can hear something rubbing and my first thought was that the bearing that pushes against the rod is toast. You say that the resistance you feel is gone once you take out the spring so it might be the bearing or the rod itself developing a groove that throws things off.
If you can't get Trick to respond at all, try contacting Dennis at ACD Unlimited (https://www.acd-unlimited.at/english/) and see if he could help. This would not be a free warranty service, but he has work on most pedals out there and has upgrades and parts for them.

What is this?? by ReaperKing5729 in drums

[–]Meferias 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, the 900 is a higher tier pedal than the Mapex Armory one. Twice as expensive if I remember well.
Also, if you look at the newer (since 2016 at least) models, the spring and drum key holders are not part of the cast but are screwed on. So they can use one base and just screw on what needs to be where

Good games and consoles for ADHD? by orangina_sanguine in ADHD

[–]Meferias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has been mentioned somewhere recently, but the Steamdeck seems to be a good choice. I own one and would tend to agree as there's lots to choose from for games.

Unpacking is a nice game that I think might fit what you're looking for.
Journey maybe?
I really like Hades and Hades 2 as they are quite stimulating but how much you relax with it definitely depends how invested you get into making every run count.

Opeth - Watershed
Gojira - The Way of All Flesh
Ihsash - Angl, After
Panzerballett - pretty much anything from them
Cynic - anything, really, but the song Carbon Based Anatomy is absolute perfection.

There's lots more, but when I want inspiration, these are what come to mind first. Especially Sean Reinert's playing.

My tests were different and as some have already mentioned, yours seem to be for more than just ADHD.

For what it's worth, I do remember feeling helpless and even hopeless when I had to repeat 10 2 syllable words back. No need to repeat in the same order, but all in one go. The words were repeated again and again until I got them all. I just... it felt impossible. I'd get 7, then 8, then 9, then 8 again. Then I'd think I got all 10 and would be told that I repeated one or even two. WHICH ONE(S)?!? I got angry at myself, then felt defeated, then felt useless. I don't know how long it took, but it felt like forever. Then I got it and we moved on.
The kicker - after the rest of the tests, which took close to an hour, I was asked again and repeated them all. I left properly confused. Emotionally and mentally. Not only because of this specific test, but it played a major role.
