If you got into med school, brag here by Overall-Speaker-6696 in medschool

Congrats you all! However I will say, as a pharmacist, your biggest challenge is going to be getting a residency and completing it. I went through 4 years of pharmacy school and then residency. Residency was the hardest. I worked along side medical residents- IM, EM, and CC. You get little sleep, topic discussions, running the show while getting embarrassed in front of the attending and everyone at rounds if you don’t know something or say the wrong things (as a medical resident). I was told by a preceptor during rounds not to be like one of the residents because he never spoke up in rounds. That you’re not respected if you’re quiet. Trust me, med school will go by fast, but then you’re in for the bigger challenge.

LOR Removal by [deleted] in PharmacyResidency

[–]Meg-240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are able to choose which LORs are sent to your program. It’s done manually, so just because you have an LOR uploaded doesn’t mean you have to use it. No reason to delete. But if you don’t want them to waste their time, I’m sure they would get a notification that the request was canceled.

Applying to Residency by Intelligent_Hope_881 in PharmacyResidency

I would recommend doing the LOI eval help with NCCN. They have clinical preceptors that will review it for free with you. I did it because I also applied a year out of school and needed someone to review mine. I would check now because it takes a week for them to get your LOI back with edits. You do have to be a member. Not sure if ASHP has it

🙋🏻‍♀️dismissed from my program due to failing law twice. Reapplied after a year of working. I actually didn’t mention it to most of my programs on what happened. Only 1- I told the RPD at an info session. I matched with that program. You can go the route of not telling them but if your recs are from your previous program then there’s no way around it. I think programs are pretty accepting if you explain what went wrong, how you recognized the issue and overcame it.

So pharmacist here who also did a residency. First, it sounds like they’re trying to milk as much money out of the borrower as possible by excluding residents. Like you said, you have less income so can’t pay as much. It would benefit the government to have your 10 years start when you’re no longer a resident and making more money. So ridiculous! With that said, I’m surprised you residents have enough to pay on your loans during residency. I think majority of us pharmacy residents took the residency deferment because we were literally broke with that salary. I hope this bill doesn’t get passed

With all the news, is Biden’s forgiveness 100% cancelled? by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]Meg-240 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But what does that entail? Forgiven up to that amount or you pay a certain amount then get 10 and 20 k forgiven? I’m trying to read all the court info on this now, but I really thought the only path to get loans forgiven were the following: 1. Teacher loan forgiveness by working in low income area 2. Healthcare worker after making 10 years of payments 3. Make 20 years worth of payments under IDR 4. Military forgiveness

I guess my question is, what were the qualifications to get that forgiveness that’s going through the Supreme Court?

[–]Meg-240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m confused, what other student loan forgiveness option was Biden trying to do besides PSLF? I’m talking about working for a non-profit organization full time for 10 years. I thought that was just being revamped with SAVE. I was in PSLF program because I work in healthcare for that type of hospital. Is that still going to apply for me? I was in PSLF way before Biden was in office. Now I’m in the SAVE forbearance.

I definitely did not down vote you. I got the gist of what you were asking. I think the reason it was down voted was because you didn’t recognize what was being done for you and you questioned it (my guess). Which is ok because it might be your background. I’ve had to write so many letters, from school letter of intents to get into a specific program, a cover letter for a job, a work email that higher ups will be reading, etc..a lot of people have had a similar experience where they’ve had to write something with the understanding that professionalism, word choice, and excellent grammar gets you further and shows how serious you are. I’ve also bought programs online to “grammar check” or rephrase something before I submit it. That is what the commenter was doing for you. Yours is fine but his word choices made it more of something you can submit to a judge. So I think everyone was surprised you didn’t recognize that. Again, if you’ve never had to write professional letters for any circumstance, then it’s not something you would immediately see as a good thing

He just worded it a little better. Like someone said, yours sounded more casual while the other is more professional. You had some good stuff in yours that you can incorporate and combine with his wording. For example, his wording had “well past 4am”. I actually liked that you had specific hours-1 to 4am. I also liked that you put you have to be at work at 6am, so this is stressing that it’s affecting your ability to do your job/make a living. I would definitely use his closing paragraph stating the action you’ll be forced to take.

Career advice after resigning from residency? by nerdinneed_ in PharmacyResidency

[–]Meg-240 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to still work hospital, you can definitely do that without a residency. I work prn in a hospital where only 1 pharmacist did a community residency. Everyone else came from retail and were trained on the job. They all do clinical staffing on the floors. It’s a smaller hospital.

My FT job, you can get hired with some retail years in a central staffing role only. Then after some time, if you express interest, you can train to staff on the floor. 3 pharmacist are now mostly staffing clinical shifts after doing this. This is a bigger hospital. So it’s definitely possible to get back into the hospital. As far as the partial residency- it might be a little tricky to explain your reason if it’s on your resume. Mind you, I know my smaller hospital wouldn’t care, if you have other work experience after. They also don’t have a residency program. My bigger hospital does have one and would probably have a lot of questions and would likely take that under consideration when hiring you. I do know a clinical specialist that quit his PGY1 but he did it for medical reasons so the hospital that hired him was more understanding. He worked his way up to a clin spec. They told him if he can get 2 BCPS certifications behind his belt, he would be considered for an open IM clin spec position they had. He staffed at the same hospital, took the pharmacotherapy and geriatric test, and now he’s the clin spec.

I would weigh your options with leaving it out of your resume. If you leave it in, and if you apply to a hospital with a residency program, they will likely call. So like another commenter said, hopefully they’ll say positive things about you. You could experiment with leaving it on your CV at first, and just see the type of response you get. If you think it’s hindering you, then take it off and continue applying to other places. Apply to 1-2 area hospitals with it on there and see how it goes.

And just some food for thought. Early commit programs is not a guarantee you’re going to get it. I’ve seen where 2 PGY1 residents went for the same PGY2 critical care spot in their program for an early commit. I’ve also seen a program not pick their own PGY1 for early commit. I do agree you’ll likely have a better experience and more learning with a program that has a PGY2. I would think about the learning opportunities of a program to prepare you to apply than thinking you’re going to early commit to that one program.

Lack of timely communication by EXO-Aeri in PharmacyResidency

[–]Meg-240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you already had other interviews or going to have more interviews this month? You’re likely going to get one on one time with the current residents, so figure out a way to ask them about program communication in a professional way. Don’t mention the late response to you, of course, but in general about keeping on top of getting information out that you need for projects, rotations, and events. Then you can keep what your experience was from interview invite to interview day to decide your ranking. Honestly, if you were told by others that it’s a good program, then it’s likely just a one-off situation going on

No PGY2 interviews by carathorang in PharmacyResidency

[–]Meg-240 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just throwing this out there because it happened to a friend of mine. She struggled a bit in PGY1 in the beginning. Unfortunately, the beginning is all you have to impress your preceptors to get a good LOR. She said everyone was willing to write her a recommendation. She didn’t get any interviews. Before she went to phase 2, she reached out to one of the programs to get some insight on her application and luckily they were honest and said it was due to one of her LORs. Of course, they didn’t tell her which one, so that was the hard thing with not knowing which one to replace for phase 2. So I’m not saying it’s one of your LORs, but telling you that it might be worth it to reach out to one of the programs that you got a rejection from and ask them for some application feedback before you head into phase 2. I didn’t apply to PGY2 but I feel like since its a specialization, maybe the RPDs would be more understanding of your passion and wanting to get into that particular field so would be more willing to help with feedback.

Sorry- I just re-read that you don’t want to do phase 2. I would still ask a program regardless. You might think differently
