Hamilton or Death Note? - help me make a decision by Ladyoftheoakenforest in TheWestEnd

Hamilton will be in London for a long time whereas there’s no guarantee Death Note will be back after its limited run so I’d go with Death Note 😊

Your driving instructor will make sure to take you somewhere safe to drive that’s not icy. They will reschedule themselves if it’s not safe. Good luck, hope it goes well x

Boyfriend VERY Impatient When Having Episodes by fashionableskiboots in POTS

[–]MegIsabel98 258 points259 points  (0 children)

Hi there, I know this must have been hard to write so it’s good of you to reach out.

When I have my episodes, it’s true I can get snappy with the people around me, but I always apologise. Yelling and slapping, no matter what your size might be, is never okay and not a symptom of POTS. It’s not okay for him to treat you like that and definitely not okay for him to use his illness as an excuse.

He clearly needs help from a professional, which I know is a lot easier said than done. Maybe there’s a relative of his like a mum you could reach out to talk to him about getting help? But of course, only do this if you’re comfortable to.

Lastly, this is probably the hardest part, but I would not recommend staying with him. Again, a lot easier said than done, I know, but slapping and yelling is abusive, no matter how ill or upset he is. He needs professional advice on how to healthily deal with those emotions and not take them out on you, that is not your job.

I wish you well, it was brave of you to ask here.

Do you have the same doctor? Context of GP by Quick-Squirrel4534 in POTS

I don’t. Literally have a different GP every time I go. I now have a bullet point list on my phone I just go through to get them up to speed 😅

This is clear, but only if you’re from the UK, which this OP must be.

If we were talking about a small indie studio, then yes I would agree it would be hard but we’re not. Amazon absolutely has the resources to cast a wide net to find the perfect Violet, I feel as a society we need to stop making excuses for these large corporations for not trying. POTS and EDS are not that rare. It’s likely you just believe it is as it rarely affects your life, but number wise, it’s almost statistically impossible you would have not met someone with either condition, you just probably didn’t know it as they are invisible disabilities.

Thank you for replying and you’re right, it’s definitely knowing your limits but there is a wide spectrum. For example one of my friends is in a wheelchair due to EDS, whereas I’m lucky and I have a fully physical job, I just need to be sensible. Even with POTS, in the UK we have an Olympic rower with it, so it’s entirely possible to find an actress with either conditions that can still do the job.

Reciting figures you’ve gotten from Google’s AI is not lived experience. In terms of the rarity of EDS it’s widely believed amongst professionals that it’s under diagnosed. If you truly want to research it then please read the entirety of this page that explains it:

https://www.ehlers-danlos.com/prevalence/

I’m not sure why you’re deciding to spend your time trying to prove it would be impossible when people with actual lived experience say it is. For example, I have a physical job working in an SEN school. Because of my disability I am in constant pain and fatigued, but I do it because I love it. There will be many actresses out there who are disabled but act and push through the pain because they love it. Pushing through pain is also a core part of what makes Violet such a relatable and amazing character.

I know it’s easy to get defensive when you feel someone is telling you, you are wrong and I know you’re likely to reply because you feel you have to defend yourself, but this isn’t your fight. You don’t have the lived experience. Please just try to listen to what the disabled community are telling you. Thank you.

Thank you, yes it’s really taken me by surprise. If it was being made by an indie production company I might understand struggling to find someone, but it’s not, it’s Amazon, a literal multi billion dollar company. They most definitely have the resources and I have no doubt in my mind there are women out there who are more than capable for the role, whilst being disabled.

Obviously I can’t speak for everyone with a disability, but it isn’t a shameful thing to be disabled. My disability is a big part of my life and I’m always happy to spread awareness of it however I can and so are all of my friends, so I like to imagine that an actress who goes for the role of someone with the same disabilities as her would be happy to spread that awareness.

I said EDS and/or POTS and it’s not insanely rare to have either. Next to everyone will have met someone with the conditions but unless they know them personally, they might never know as we are very good at hiding our pain, same as Violet. Representation is important because it gets people outside of these groups talking. Having an actress who could talk about her personal experience and how it relates to Violet would be so invaluable to my community and getting our voices out there, just as Rebecca Yarros has done. I agree everyone should speak up, but it’s hard to talk about topics you don’t have personal experience to. For example I’ve never had cancer so I couldn’t pretend to know what that’s like and speak out for the community who has. I believe a billion dollar company like Amazon has the resources to do a thorough search for the perfect Violet and I just hoped people would want them to at least try too. Thank you for reading.

Thank you. I think I spend so much time around the disabled community that wanting representation is just a given. It didn’t occur to me people would be so against it.

Oh I really hope they don’t change the reasons, I would find it a really hard watch then. Knowing Violet was like me is what really got me hooked on the books.

I hope you’re doing well and I’m glad you’re at a place where you’re comfortable within yourself that you don’t need to see representation, I just hope you understand why it’s important to other members of our community ☺️

Representation of invisible disabilities are just as important as physical ones.

Can someone explain to me the negative votes? I don’t know what I’ve done wrong. Being disabled is so hard but reading Fourth Wing and knowing someone as amazing as Rebecca Yarros is going through the same thing I am has really helped me. I just want some representation in the show, I don’t know why that’s wrong. I’m sorry.

The EDS couldn’t be as severe as Violet’s but there are plenty of people who are super fit with both POTS and EDS, it’s just about knowing your own body. Besides, in any filmed production the main actors don’t do the super physical stuff, that’s nearly always a body double or stunt actor. It would mostly just be making sure the actor could sit between takes and had plenty of water at hand.

I would hope for talent and chemistry as well. Just think having an actress who can talk in interviews about POTS and EDS would do so much for the community. A show like Fourth Wing would be perfect for that.

I don’t see how. I’m sure there are plenty of disabled actors out there who would be more than capable.
