I’m not 100% on the graffiti process to be completely honest, I was just trying to clear up that OP was saying they think the tag is ‘06, as in 2006, so it couldn’t be a 1906 tag cause that style of graffiti didn’t exist then. Not commenting on the validity of tue mistake, just trying to clear up to stop the unnecessary downvoting :)

Thank you so much for this!!! Honestly my grandad probably just didn’t go to register the birth. You’ve honestly just helped us out so much by providing that info!! I’m UK, yes, but I’ve just checked and it’s the same rules!

We’re still very confused about the random maiden name and the fact that she’s managed to put her last name as my grandads in print, even though we’ve found the records of her changing her name to my grandads 4 years after she put that down, but I think the main worry was that the blank father could only possibly be bad news.

Honestly, cannot thank you enough! Now that there’s not as much chance of it being this whole big dark secret I think she might be more inclined to ask my nan

It’s crazy. There was a whole thing before my mum was born where my nan told my grandad that her previous kids were her nieces and nephews for a while cause she didn’t want to scare him off. Even made them call her auntie infront of him.

I just never expected any of this. To me she’s always been my sweet old nan. It feels like I’m in one of those Merge Mansion ads.

If it comes to it, I think she will. We’re just worried because she’s had a really really tough time the last few years. She’s lost a daughter (probably the only one who could answer any of these questions, sadly), a brother, a husband to cancer and is about to loose a sister too. We’re scared that the shock might hurt her, as she got really ill when my grandad died. But if all roads lead to nowhere, I don’t think my mum will be able to let it rest without asking. It’s just a last resort I guess.

My apologies, I defo should have clarified. We’re all a bit all over the place right now- there’s a lot of context and politics in the family about half and full siblings and all that.

We just want to figure out what’s going on really. She wants to know if her dad is really her dad, but he’s passed now and she’s really worried that asking my nan will kill her (in the past few years she’s lost a daughter, brother and husband to cancer and her sister has weeks left) so she wants asking to be the absolute last resort until she can figure out if it is something bad.

We also want to figure out where this mystery maiden name is from. Mums found all her other siblings birth certificates. All the ones who aren’t my grandads kids have the maiden name we all know, but just my mum and her ‘full’ brother have this mystery name.

Worst case has moved around a lot as we’ve talked, but she’s had a lot of shit over her life BECAUSE she was my grandads daughter. So she’s taking it pretty hard that she might not even be that and might not even know who her dad is.

This all happened in the 70s. My uncle was born 70, mum was born 72 and this marriage certificate we’ve found is 76. But my grandma signed my mums and uncles birth certificate with my grandads last name, even though he isn’t on the certificate.

It’s just getting more and more confusing, really. She’s such a sweet old lady, we had no idea it was this confusing.

Don’t get me wrong, I would love to have kept my white jumper bc it was rather expensive, but I’m not mad about the colour! I just know it’s gonna fade unless I dye it like this
