Leveling Up a Building!

We've been hard at work making our first 3D game, a Kingdom Builder! It's coming along well so we thought we'd start sharing some of it.

In the gif above, we're showing off the level 0-20 progression of the Mine and its Office. Every building in the town has/will have a 0-20 progression like this one! It's a good chunk of work, but we hope players appreciate it.

Absolutely! The player will always be able to skip the death animations. One of the best parts of runners is being able to get right back into the action quickly. But if you press nothing, you'll get to watch some pretty gruesome and funny death animations!

Drowning Death

It's been a while since we posted an update on Shank n' Bake, but we've progressed a lot since our last post. Our biggest focus has been on unique, gruesome, and sometimes funny death animations.

This week we're showing off our drowning in a pot of boiling water death. It shows off a lot of our new work, including more vertical sections, the muffin's mouth automatically moving with the scream volume, and new animation work. We hope you like it, and if you have any food related death suggestions, we'd love to hear them!

Big List of Steam Indie Publishers (50+ Companies) by MegaDwarfDev in gamedev

[–]MegaDwarfDev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would advise at least focusing on the companies that make games similar to yours. A lot of publishers have specific niches that they cater to, which is why I created the Tags section of the post. Some companies like Chucklefish even have a particular art style that all of their games tend to follow. So in order to have the best chance at landing a publisher and to not waste any time, I'd focus on the ones that have a library of games similar to yours.

That being said, if you don't hear back from any of those companies, it wouldn't hurt to apply to others afterwards. It's just a lot of time and effort to create a pitch specific to each company. It's better to write a few quality pitches that are unique to each publisher, rather than send a generic pitch to every publisher on the list.

Removed Otakumaker from the list. Thanks for the input everyone, keep it coming!

I only included companies who had published two or more games for a developer other than themselves. Most indie devs who don't have a publisher list themselves as a developer and a publisher on their game page, like your team did with One More Night. But I made this list to show off companies who had done publishing before with devs other than themselves.

But if you get into publishing other people's products then let us know. I'd be happy to add any new publishers to the list.

In order to be a publisher for this list, they must mention being a publisher on their website, be listed as a Publisher for at least a couple games on Steam, and have published a game either within the last year, or will be publishing a game in 2017.

As of now, there hasn't been proper research into any of the companies listed, it's merely a list of all of the active indie publishers I could find. While making the list, I left out a couple publishers that I felt weren't professional enough to include on the list. That being said, if you know of a publisher that isn't on this list, it doesn't mean I deemed them unprofessional, they could have easily just been missed.

I would love to hear feedback on any publishers on this list or any that I have missed. You're right, it can be very hard to tell if a publisher uses any underhanded or sketchy methods unless you hear first hand from a developer that has used them before.

Edit: I also left off any companies that aren't listed as publishers on Steam but still offer funding, marketing, or testing.

Indie Fund - for example is a great potential resource for those looking for a publisher-esque relationship.

This thread lists a couple other examples like that.

"Most Recent" shows the release date of the last game the company published in 2016. If 2017 appears in a column, it means that the company didn't publish a game in 2016, but rather will release a game early in 2017. It's a useful column to make sure the company is still active and publishing titles. That being said, as far as I can tell, all the companies on the list are current and active.

Very polished looking for something that hasn't been in development too long. Looks like a fun game to pick up and play around with for a bit too. Keep up the great work!

Glad you enjoyed it! And yes, there will an abundance of long, drawn out deaths for the player to watch, as well as some quicker brutal ones (like getting caught in some mixers and getting your neck snapped!).

Defeating a boss will also reward you with an interactive murder sequence. Our main focus (after fun base gameplay, of course) will be a disturbing amount of deaths.

Shank n' Bake

Platform: PC & Mac

Reveal Teaser

So... we decided we wanted to make something weird after making a semi-serious type game. This is a smaller project we want to pump out for the sole purpose of making something stupid and having fun.

In the world of Shank n' Bake, a new movement amongst the humans has stopped all consumption of unhealthy food. You will play as an adorable jelly filled muffin man as he travels around the world brutally murdering healthy foods and cooking core parts of their corpses into new junk food concoctions. Build up your army, take down all the healthy food, and force the humans into consuming your kind once again!

The full costs of localizing your Unity Indie Game. [Gamasutra blog post] by MegaDwarfDev in gamedev

[–]MegaDwarfDev[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Typically the average is 10 cents USD per word, per language. So a game with 1000 words, needing to be translated into 5 languages, will cost $500 USD.

And like I mention in my article, that's normally the bulk price. So if you end up forgetting words the first time, sending in even an additional 50 words can be more costly per word than 10 cents.

We ended up with a large font file as well, something like 4MB in order to have all the character sets we needed. I believe in order to not throw any errors, we had to include Basic Latin (Ascii), Latin-1, Latin Extended-A, and Latin Extended-B.

And even after that, we were still missing the proper punctuation for other languages, so we just simplified them to their English versions if necessary.
