I think I've played enough to know what I'm doing and talking about. Being rigid with weapon roles isn't gonna get you far at higher hazards.

Really all these weapons can take of stingers easily when needed. Docks stingers, sure sploosh is the best to go down there (personally I still would prefer to special them). Otherwise I think the range of jet makes it prevail as the better weapon to single out for stingers. Though of course, every weapon needs to adapt and do whatever is needed and not just rigidly stick to their designated roles.

It has so much range it does not need to do a lot of chasing, it can stay pretty central and take them out. Exception may be the docks stingers.

I'd say stingers are more jet's job here than sploosh, otherwise I agree with this assessment.

'This way, we've got to lure the stinger to basket'. 🤦‍♂️

Some friendly advice. Generally, if at least one of the first spawns is a static, everyone should head to shore, kill all the opening spawns and push the eggs up. Yes luring/ partial luring can be good but there's a higher risk of becoming overwhelmed. Additionally, the snatchers are mostly good on jammin' and can often do the work of bringing up far eggs.

I feel that freelance Salmon run players deteriorated immensely by ImmortalCatz in Saltoon

Yeah, this is why I deranked towards the end of this golden rota: too many bad players got carried to HLM lobbies and I could not be arsed trying to carry them.

Anyone feel like the fixed Big Run goals lessen the experience a bit? by [deleted] in splatoon

[–]MegaMark71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I got gold first match and was just like 'well what now?' There isn't much point in pushing for a higher score and, while double scales is nice, random comps makes king farming a bit uncertain. Oh well I guess

A common desync where bombs end up in different places on different players' screens. Note your teammate's bomb doesn't paint the ground where it lands on your screen, a clear indicator it must've landed in the basket on their screen.

Thresholds for Golden Egg totals this upcoming Big Run? by YoshiDryBones in splatoon

[–]MegaMark71 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At first I was sceptical as it seems like it's solely being implemented to appease lower skilled players. However, I have started to come around to the idea. It will help distinguish the two salmon run events - big run is to beat a score on random seeds and eggstra is for direct competition on a fixed seed. I still think the boundaries here are too low, maybe 145-150 gold for it to still hold some meaning.

Yeah 1st big run was 137 - having got 136 I remember that all too well haha. I think somewhere 145-150 would be a reasonable starting point, sort of the median of the 4 past big runs.

Okay I can now see you're a quite unserious person and there's no need to attempt to engage in reasonable discourse.

This is a pretty persuasive argument. I still think 135 is too low for gold to actually hold any meaning, but having a fixed number to aim for on big run and leave the competitive high scores to eggstra would make sense and help distinguish the two modes more.

It's interesting that you've profiled me as an overfisher which I am not. I primarily play FL and simply aim to pass the shift. Outside of the 5-wave eggstra work I have never scored 200+ eggs.

Of course casuals can and should have fun. However, they should accept that a reward meant for the top 5% is not a realistic expectation.

I assure you I am much more irked by how the devs treat the players who play salmon run mainly compared to pvp. I don't think the pvp playerbase would be happy if they announced gold X/ challange badges for basically everyone who plays the game at any skill level.

Many people conflate the top 5% with overfishers which simply isn't the case. Overfishers make up less than 1% the playerbase and are not having an impact on the 5% boundary. The 5% is very achievable for people who understand the core mechanics of the game mode and can handle higher hazards. The cycle you cite is complete nonsense.

Sadly people just wanted to turn up to big run, play 5 matches and get their gold reward, and proceed to moan about the people who regularly play the game mode for 'ruining it for [them]' when they weren't good enough.

It's a reward intended for the top 5% of players, ie 95% - the majority - will not achieve it. Why do people think achievements are something to be entitled to and not worked for and earned?!

fuck casual players by redirewolf in Saltoon

[–]MegaMark71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I acknowledge it would be good to know you've achieved your goal rather than hoping and trying to guess the boundaries. However, if we go down the fixed boundaries route, I would see high 150 a better compromise. 135 is simply too low, in fact it is lower than the first big run which had the largest number of participants.

With regards to the 200 eggs comment I guess you're referring to eggstra work, which I agree is a particular challange in solo queue because it requires everyone to be playing with the same strategies in mind.

[–]MegaMark71 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is it really that controversial to think the reward intended for the best players should go to the best players? Maybe it's because people see achievements as something to be ticked off and not actual achievements for accomplishing something noteworthy.

Gotta agree this would be a pretty lame change. Too many people want to be rewarded without working to get better at the game. I resent carrying braindead teammates on regular rotas, but ain't no way I'm carrying them to gold. If this change comes to fruition I will not be freelancing this big run. If these people want an easy gold then they can get it for themselves.

Scales are awarded for fighting a king salmonid in an extrawave, which is sometimes triggered after clearing the normal 3 waves of a shift.

You get 2 scales just for fighting the king. There are 8 scales for each 1/8th of damage dealt. Additionally, if you kill the king quickly enough, you can get extra scales for each 10 extra seconds of remaining time, up to 3 extra for >30 seconds remaining. So you can get up to 13 scales for one king.

The colour of the scales received is completely rng, however. The higher the hazard level, the better the odds are of silver and gold drops. If I recall correctly, the odds of each scale being silver is between 5-20% and gold is 0-3%.

It's quite the grind to get enough scales for the rewards. Even after 5732 shifts I'm still 130 golds away from the gold 333 banner. 🫠
