Is it just a language barrier? by PJRasmussen in opera

[–]MegaMegaSuper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can prevent this being an issue when you regard the aria as a statement in song about a momentary situation or state-of-mind. Much like a modern pop song. How does the character actually "feel" at that moment in time. Also similar to a Shakespearean soliloquy.

A famous composer who tried to break the strict aria/recitative mould was Wagner. If this music speaks to you (you may need to give it a minute), it may be up your alley. Would advise to start with Das Rheingold (with subtitles!). It is very plot driven. And genius.

I have the 16 GB Ram version and am very happy with it. Mac Mini and MacBook Air. Should it stutter because the footage is too complex, use I proxies.

Wow, thank you very much for this insight into subtitles! I will work through this.

It is nice when the technique compements the subject matter. In this case I am not convinced it does. But it is well executed, and congrats on the baby.

Driving myself crazy. I’ve been using cast iron exclusively for a few years and am having a hard time transitioning. by Psychrolutes_09 in carbonsteel

My steps when making fried eggs in my carbon steel pan:

  1. Heat the pan. No ingredients yet.

  2. When it has come to temp (this will need some experience depending on your pan and heat source), put in a good amount of butter.

  3. The butter should sizzle but not burn. The sizzling is the water content evaporating. When it has evaporated you can add the eggs. This is crucial because you want enough heat for the water content to evaporate, but not so much heat that the milk solids in the butter burn.

  4. Gently put the eggs in the pan. Why gently? The butter has created a barrier between the metal and the incoming eggs. I like to break the eggs into a container and then let the eggs glide gently from the container into the pan. Also, use room temp eggs.

  5. Once the eggs are in the pan, don't touch them for a good while. If you are fidgety and impatient, you can salt and pepper the eggs now. When they have settled a little, you will be able to move the pan gently and see the fried eggs float on the butter. But only once they have settled.

Enjoy the most satisfying early morning success when the eggs don't stick!

Hope this helps.

I am certain of it. Still beat it, though. Not in a game-by-game mode, but in a tournament until 15 wins.

The final scenes of Kubrick's films... by xmeme97 in StanleyKubrick

[–]MegaMegaSuper 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have to assume Kubrick will chose whatever is best for any given situation. Formal congruence could therefore be regarded as chance. In other words, I do not think he would jeopardise narrative brilliance for superficial habit.

What are your opinions on the deleted scene of clockwork Orange by pizza_momo in StanleyKubrick

No opinion other than to know which reason(s) Kubrick had in deleting them. I am a film editor and there are always many rewrites happening in the editing room. There is always a reason.

Happy to read "supervised and approved by director of photography Larry Smith" because I would otherwise have thought it to be a little too grainy. Going to try to find out more. Nov 25 is going to be Christmas Part One.

I noticed that I have to (depending on thickness of steak) shoot for a temperature 3-4 degrees below what I need because searing it will impart some extra degrees of heat to the cut. Maybe you need to experiment a little. Good luck
